If you guys have been following along for awhile, you may know that I’m kind of obsessed with swimwear. What can I say? It’s the California girl in me! I just really love all the different colors, prints and styles. There are so many gorgeous swimwear options for this summer, but I feel like there are so many “swimsuit rules” to follow. People are always touting these rules like it’s the freaking summer bible or something. Like, don’t wear a bikini unless you’re size 2. Don’t wear prints. Avoid ruffles and don’t you dare feel confident! It’s kind of
infuriating annoying, actually, so I thought I would share my personal swimsuit rules that I think you should definitely break this summer. I’ve also included some designer swimwear, plus size swimwear, eco-friendly swim options, and some beauty essentials you should have on hand whenever you head out the the beach, pool or lake ♥
5 Swimsuit Rules You Should Break this Summer
Don’t Wear A Bikini Unless You’re A Size 2.
This one pisses me off so much. Whether you’re a size 0 or a size 20, you should definitely wear a bikini. There are adorable high waisted bikinis these days for plus size ladies to wear comfortably and there are straight sized ones too. Alternatively, there are both straight and plus size conventional bikinis. No matter how insecure you may feel, you should wear a bikini at least once in your life, just for the sake of doing it. Embrace your body, enjoy yourself, and love yourself enough to live life fully – without letting others dictate what you should and shouldn’t wear.
Seriously? That’s like saying you can’t have any spice in your food. Prints can be so much fun, especially when it comes to summer fashion and I think everyone should wear them. After all, I’m sure everyone can agree there’s at least one print out there you like whether it’s stripes, floral, tropical, or palm print.
Moms Can’t Look Cute.
But why though? I know some seriously hot moms and it would be a damn shame if they had to wear unflattering one piece swimsuits for the rest of their existence simply because they birthed some babies. It’s just ridiculous to think that moms are not sexy. They totally are the power women of the world and they should look their best, including on the beach!
Don’t Be Too Sexy.
Sorry, but what kind of rule is that? Whenever people tell me they can’t wear something because it’s “too sexy” or that they can’t go to the pool in something revealing, I have to suppress an inner groan and eye roll. I mean, yes, to a certain extent, you probably shouldn’t wear your thong bikini to your family pool party, but hey, if you want to, I support! And in other social situations, you have every right to look as sexy or modest as you like. Nobody owns your body but you. It disturbs me when others try to dictate how other people dress. It’s none of their damn business and it doesn’t give people license to comment, touch or otherwise if you decide to wear something a little more sexy. Live it up, girl! I support ya!
Don’t Feel Confident.
It seems to me that there’s this bizarre, unspoken rule about wearing a swimsuit and not wanting to appear too confident or just plain not feeling confident. In the first, it’s ridiculous to downplay feeling good about yourself in any situation, but it seems like girls and women alike compete for this. Maybe we all have crippling insecurity, but it’s got to stop. We have to change the way we talk to ourselves and about ourselves! So, whether you truly don’t feel confident or you’re simply down playing yourself to avoid looking vain, do me a favor and just DON’T.
And now that we’ve all become bonafied rule breakers up in here, it’s time to shop for a one piece, bikini or tankini that you love, feel great in, and flaunts your asssssets!
