How Did You Fall for Green Beauty?

Green beauty wasn’t always on the forefront of my mind. It all started with bad skin and a whole hell of a LOT of stress. At the time, I was 21, I had gained a fair amount of weight, and I had moved out of my parents house for the first time in my life. My mom and I were not on speaking terms and, to be quite honest, I wasn’t in the best place. I had hormonal acne in high school that never really abated and, if that wasn’t horrible enough, the acne I experienced in my early 20’s was much, MUCH worse.

My Acne Went from Bad to Worse…

I started to fall for green beauty when I first discovered etsy. There are so many amazing natural skincare brands on there and I was seeking a kinder way to treat my acne. Oxypads (those harsh alcohol astringent pads from the drugstore) and benzoyl peroxide weren’t doing a damn thing for me anymore. I was beyond desperate to give my skin any kind of relief.

In truth, desperation is a large part of what, ultimately, led me to discovering green beauty.

My hopes for clearer skin and gentler products (that wouldn’t stop working after a month) were what powered my inquisitive mind to search out the best options.

A Newfound Passion for Healthier Beauty

Once I began discovering products that were truly helping to clear my skin up, it all kind of snow-balled. My initial search for acne-friendly products had unearthed a hidden love for all things beauty. In high school, my skincare never exceeded a spot treatment, moisturizer, astringent pads, powder, and black eyeliner.

Now, I began to explore a newfound curiosity to experiment with all kinds of cosmetics and I began to question everything about them. Where did they come from? Who made them and what the hell is in it? What am I supporting when I purchase them? Is it damaging to the environment or harmful to animals?

All of these factors became second nature to me when looking to purchase a new product.

By the time my skin had (mostly) cleared up, I was ascertaining an entirely new world of natural cosmetics. The kind of skincare that heals your skin without upsetting it’s delicate balance. A collection of makeup products that were imbued with skincare benefits and no nasty or harsh chemicals. Hair care that would balance and hydrate my hair instead of concealing my troubles with silicone and other low quality ingredients.

Why I Fell for Green Beauty

In the end, I’ve stuck with green beauty products because it’s been the most effective way to heal my skin and my heart. It’s become less about beauty and more about self-care. On the road to clear skin, I not only found better skin, but I also unlocked a new way to take time out for self-love and a holistic beauty ritual that truly loves me back. A love that’s not just on the surface.

That is the biggest reason why green beauty has become my lifestyle choice and why I’m so happy to promote it to others. It has changed my life in so many ways and I know that it can change yours too!

Why You Should Fall In Love With Green Beauty

{ If You Haven’t Already! }

For me it was when I realized that I was trying to eat healthy and organic but was still putting chemicals on my screen. I grew up with natural beauty products and a lot of them were not very “nice” and effective. So it’s also when I saw that more and more green beauty products were coming out and were actually effective and pleasant to use 🙂

I have so much love for etsy! I’ve liked the idea of making my own natural skin care products since junior high, but was generally too cheap to go out and buy ingredients to make em’ most of the time (sigh). So happy about the discover of etsy! 😀

same! etsy has some great items on there 🙂 making products on your own is such work. I used to do it and even sold some in an etsy store, but it wasn’t for me at the end of it lol . I have such respect for people who do it. it’s a lot of work.

So many great brands- love everything in your bag LOL – Love big shares like this, found a slew of brands I’ll have to check out! Organic makeup isn’t always the easiest to find, but once you make the switch there’s no going back. I forgot my mascara a few months ago on a trip so I bought a cheap Maybeline one cause i had no other options. Instantly my eyes puffed out, were irritated and hurt like heck. All because I used that toxic sh*t lol – never again

Most of the products I use are not green, and I’m thinking it’s time to make the switch. Especially now that there are so many great products out there!

Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style. When the acne gets worse the product is not good for your skin. It still may be good for someone else, though.

Some of my favorite beauty products have been all-natural. I have sensitive skin so I have to be really careful about ingredients in cosmetics. #HomeMattersParty
