Apoterra Skincare ReviewApoterra Skincare Review

I’ve been meaning to review Apoterra Skincare for ages, but I just never got around to it #sorrynotsorry – I’ve been uninspired lately, it’s a thousand degrees here in California, and, quite frankly, I’ve put it off. I did mention it previously in this post because I really love this brand, but I just didn’t feel like write a dedicated post for it at the time. So, here I am, writing it now 😛

About Apoterra Skincare

Apoterra Skincare, previously known as Caru Skincare, is a small apothecary beauty brand based in NYC. The founder, Dominique Caron, is a certified herbalist and aromatherapist who created the brand as a way to offer products for sensitive skin that were effective, sustainable, natural, and affordable.

The brand is proud to focus on offering products that are sustainable, natural, and effective and strive to maintain transparency which I really admire. They have been featured in many magazines including Lucky, Vogue, Allure, and ELLE who claimed one of their serums was “one of the most effective natural products on the planet” for 2015. Impressive, no? If that’s not enough, the brand packages all products in dark eco-friendly glass (which also preserves the products) and uses eco-friendly paper for product labels.

So, What Does Apoterra Mean, Anyway?

Apoterra, means “derived from the earth”

Apo = derived from

Terra = earth

Apoterra Skincare Herbal Facial Steam Review

Both products I was sent were lovely! They’re incredibly useful, natural, consciously packaged, and beautiful. That’s a lot in a product, in my opinion. A lot of the time, brands get one or two of those things right and miss all the rest. It’s not so with Apoterra Skincare. For me, they definitely tick all the boxes.

Rose Hydrating Toner with Hyaluronic Acid + Rooibos

This was, by far, my favorite product of the two! This unique toner has a base of certified organic distilled rose and brings hyaluronic acid (helps rebuild moisture in the skin), rooibos for it’s clarifying properties, and radish root ferment for it’s skin firming abilities.

The toner is gentle, smells of lovely rose, and is easily applied with a cotton pad. I felt like it definitely helped brighten my skin quite a bit! The only thing I didn’t like about this toner was that I would prefer it to be in a mist bottle instead of squirting out. Using cotton pads isn’t that eco-friendly.

Herbal Detoxifying Steam with Flowers + Cleansing Herbs

This herbal steam was a completely new experience for me! I’ve done facial steams with tea before, but never like this. This herbal steam comes in a blend of dried flowers and herbs meant to cleanse, detox, and hydrate the skin. Use 1-2 tablespoons (I used 2) of this blend and steep it in a bowl of 4 cups of boiling water. Then, position your face over the bowl so it’s hovering over the water and put a towel over your head to lock in the steam.

You can stay there for up to 15 minutes and it’s best to do it sitting because hunching over for 10 minutes is super uncomfortable (take it from this idiot). If you’ve never tried a facial steam and deal with tired, dull or acne prone skin, this is a lovely one to try!
