Practicing Self Care During the Holiday Season

Practicing Self Care During the Holiday Season

Practicing self care during the holiday season can be difficult, to say the least. Between dealing with your gift lists, holiday decorating, attending events, and getting everything else done in time, the holiday season can feel quite STRESSFUL! Because of this, I thought I would share a few simple ways I like to keep my holiday season as serene and relaxing as possible.

Relaxing Baths

One of my favorite ways to relax is by taking a bath. I load up the bath with epsom salts or my favorite bath soak or bath bomb and sink deep into bliss. Sometimes, if I just want to relax my muscles, I’ll take my ipad or a good book in with me and escape into my favorite show or book series. It’s totally up to you what works for you.

Sometimes I’ll do a face mask as well or make an entire at-home spa session out of it with gua sha, foot and hand treatments, etc. Other times, I only have enough energy to toss epsom salts into the water and fall in LOL. Epsom salts are great because they’re rich in minerals and help muscle healing as well as aid in your body’s basic cellular functions which is vital during the winter and amidst stress.

Face Mask Fridays

I love doing face masks any day, really, but Face Mask Friday has a nice ring to it! I love a good face mask and I’m a firm believer that they truly can solve any problem. My favorites include either a good clay mask, a deep hydration one, or a quick 5-minute glow mask.

Time with Friends

There are times when I feel super overwhelmed during the holiday rush and just need to vent or laugh with a good friend. If we have enough time, I love meeting up for coffee or a meal and a chat. If we can’t meet up, then I simply ring up a friend or two and have a nice chat. It’s a great way to get some relief and get my mind off trivial things for a little while.

Get a Massage

This is one of my favorite things to do with a friend, but if that’s not possible go get a massage on your own! It makes a massive difference when it comes to relieving stress in the body and mind. We don’t realize how much tension sits within us until we’re lying there are on the massage table; I’m just saying! Sometimes I don’t realize how stiff I’ve become until the massage therapist is working through all the knots in my back LOL.

Getting Rest

One of the most important things you can do during the holiday season is get enough sleep. Not only is your body experiencing a big change with the colder weather, but shorter hours means you’re cramming a lot more into your days. Because of this, getting decent sleep is essential to not losing your mind. Trust me when I say that when I am missing sleep, I become way crabbier and less capable of functioning!

Regular Exercise + Eating Healthy

Pre holiday season, my friends and I committed to working out several times a week together and it makes a huge impact on how productive I’m able to be during the week. On top of that, my mobility, strength and flexibility is better which means I’m able to avoid injuries. Because the weather is colder now, I’ve also taken to making lots of veggie soups and roasts. These are a great, but simple way to get your greens, veggies and beans in which will keep your fueled, healthy and happy.
