5 Fun Ways to Celebrate Autumn Equinox!

Happy Autumn Equinox AKA the first day of the fall season! If you didn’t already know, the autumn equinox is a very unique phenomenon in that there are equal (or near equal) hours of day and night. In the Northern Hemisphere, it marks the beginning of fall while in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the start of Spring. The equinox occurs when the sun is precisely in line with the equator. Equinoxes, in general, mark a shift in dominance between light and dark. In the case of the autumn equinox, it denotes a turning point and transitional time between the end of summer and the beginning of winter. Shorter days and longer nights. So, with that, here are 5 lovely ways to celebrate autumn equinox to the fullest!

5 Ways to Celebrate Autumn Equinox

Enjoy a Seasonal Dish

A longstanding tradition to bringing in the start of autumn is to enjoy a delicious meal. Historically, the beginning of fall usually meant harvesting actual crops back in the day. Not many of us are harvesting crops anymore, but you can still make a seasonal meal or dish! A delicious stew or soup, apple or pumpkin inspired desserts, or some yummy cider are all great options!

Go Apple Picking or Visit a Pumpkin Farm

If you can, why not visit a pumpkin farm or go apple picking to celebrate the first day of fall? Pick some apples, then go home and make a delicious apple pie or crumble. If that sounds like too much, you can bake the apples with some nuts and serve it with ice cream, instead. It’s just as amazing and a lot simpler.

Apples not your thing? Visit a pumpkin farm instead! Pick out some amazing gourds and take them home to carve or paint. Utilize the entire pumpkin by baking the seeds with a savory spice blend or some cinnamon sugar.

Gratitude List

I know most people reserve gratitude for Thanksgiving, but you don’t have to wait until November to reflect on what you’re grateful for. Make a quick list of all the good things that have come your way so far this year. You can opt to do this in a group with friends and family, if you like. Then, go around and read your lists aloud.

Enjoy Nature’s Beauty

A great way to truly take in the beauty of autumn is by getting out into nature. Take a hike and watch the leaves change, if you’re lucky enough to live in a place with four seasons. Go for a drive or get out into your local neighborhood for a walk or run; the air has a different vibe once fall hits. Drink it in and enjoy this present moment. The whirlwind of the holiday season is on its way!

Deep Clean Your Home

This is a bit unconventional for the fall season, but a deep clean on your room or home is a great way to transition into any new season. Deep clean each room, clean your closet out, and get rid of any lingering clutter to truly welcome this new season into your home. Finish up by decorating with a few statement decor pieces for fall or Halloween.
