TV Shows I’ve Been Watching Lately

I’ve been kind of obsessed with TV lately. You know, a little more than my usual and I like to think it’s the fault of both Netflix and Hulu because I don’t recall being this glued to the screen back when I had regular cable. Without the massive amounts of ads and tons of entire seasons of TV shows at my fingertips, I’ve discovered so many awesome new shows and I thought it would be fun to share my current top 3 latest discoveries with you all in case, like me, you are obsessed with online streaming via Netflix and/or Hulu.

TV Shows I’ve Been Watching Lately

My boyfriend and I randomly discovered this new show on Hulu, but for those of you who have cable, it’s on the CW. This show kind of snuck up on me. Initially, I didn’t think I would like it because it appeared to be just a re-hash of Zombieland with a female lead. Upon further watching this show, I found that it’s actually a lot more like Grimm than Zombieland. The story follows Liv, a medical student turned zombie, who works at the local morgue and helps solve crimes after eating the brains of crime victims.

The show is both hilarious and heartfelt. It has a lot of character and still comes off as fresh and unique amidst a horror sub-genre that, at this point, has been done to death. I like the characters of the show and I think that’s what definitely stands out about it and makes me want to keep coming back each week for another episode.

The Secret Circle

The Secret Circle is a one season show that was cancelled after season 1 because the CW thought it was too expensive to make which totally sucks because this show is AWESOME! It ends on a somewhat cliffhanger, but if you like stories about witches, covens, and teen angst, then you’ll enjoy this one a lot! The story follows Cassie Blake who goes to live with her grandmother in Chance Harbor after her mother tragically dies in a fire. She’s then confronted by a group of local kids who claim she’s a witch and the 6th member who can complete their witch circle. There’s a lot more to it than that, but the story is really good, there’s tons of mystery, intrigue, and love to keep you hooked the entire way through. I pretty much was glued to the couch every day after work for about a week or two, including when I was walking on the treadmill. I know; I have problems.

Lost Girl

This last one is a more recent discovery of mine (as in still watching!). All seasons of this show are on Netflix except the most recent one (season 5, I think) which is available in Canada on Showcase and in the USA via SyFy. The show follows Bo, a succubus, who finds out she’s a faerie and must choose a side: light or dark. Along with her trusty (and hilarious) sidekick, Kenzie, the two help solve mysterious crimes and work to unveil Bo’s mysterious past.

The show is both based in reality and fantasy. The faerie world is really just a side interest to the main plot of : who is Bo, really? All the characters are totally memorable and they all seem to have interesting lives. In fact, I’d argue that some of the supporting characters seem to be even more interesting than the main character, herself, but that’s just my Kenzie favoritism coming out. You can watch seasons 1-4 on Netflix and it looks like has the epsiodes of the most recent season available online as well. If Canadian shows are your thing, definitely check out another great one – Orphan Black – as the latest third season just started!

I’m so glad to see someone else is watching iZombie! I’m loving that show right now, and I’m always afraid of my favorites getting cancelled. Thanks for spreading the word!

Ooo, I haven’t heard of iZombie, but I’ll have to check that out! That sounds like an interesting (and hilarious) premise! :]

You do not have problems at all, haha. I was like that with The Secret Circle as well. Sad that they cancelled it!

Ok…I knew I was gonna like you from your awesome mini “about me” in the side bar, but this post has just confirmed it! I haven’t seen izombie but I was obsessedddddd with the Secret Circle when it use to come on the CW and to be honest, I’m still pissed to this very day that they cancelled it! Every time I go on Netflix and see it under recommendations, I get sad and angry all over again lol. I hate indefinite cliff hangers! As for Lost Girl…loooove that show also! I first found it on Netflix when I was sick last New Years…best show ever although I can’t stand Lauren, I love me some Kenzie! Don’t even get me started on wolfman 😉 Lol

haha thanks Cristal! You’re pretty awesome yourself 😀 iZombie is awesome! It’s really funny and endearing in a weird sort of way. Yesss omg I was so pissed when I found out they only had the one season! It’s the ultimate betrayal!! lol. and YES – Lost Girl. I am so obsessed with it!! I’m almost done with season 4 and seriously, I freaking hate Bo – could she be a crappier main character? It’s all about Kenzie, Dyson, Trick, Hex and Tamsin! Yeah, I kinda hated Lauren too, but she’s grown on me lol. She’s still better than stupid Bo.

I LOVE Secret Circle. I’m still sad that it got cancelled, because it was so good! I adore Britt Robertson so much. I was sad when the show ended, so I decided to read the books, but they’re so different! Good, but just completely different. I wish they would pick it back up. They left some things open ended.

Me too! I was seriously obsessed haha. She’s great and she’s coming out in a ton of new films this year, including Tomorrowland! The books are SO different. I only read the first chapter of book 1, but I couldn’t get into it. Are they good? Yeah agreed. Have you seen Lost Girl? It’s also amazing and 4 seasons of it on Netflix! 😉
