Try Before You Die #2: Outrageous Fashion Trends

It’s been awhile since my first post in this “Try Before You Die” series so sorry about that; I’ve just wanted to take some time to do this post properly so that’s the reasoning behind it. Today’s post is all about outrageous fashion trends to try that I think are worth trying. When I say outrageous, I don’t mean literally; I just mean trends which some people might find outrageous, strange or scary.

Fashion trends are something that, you might know, I really don’t follow all that much. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I don’t. Mostly, I just wear what I like and I think everyone should ultimately wear what they like, but I also think that it’s important to try new things, even if you think you can’t to pull them off. You might just surprise yourself so here are some outrageous fashion trends I think you should try “before you die!”

Prints // Mixing Prints: Prints are something I’ve always had trouble wearing. I used to wear crazy clothes a lot when I was younger, but my brother constantly made fun of my style (purple velvet bell bottoms, I’m looking at you) so I think I was just scared into not taking fashion risks with prints as I got older. That being said, lately I’ve been really into mixing stripes with floral and wearing neutrals and leopard print. I also think that mixing prints, when done right, can look really cool and unique and fun. Prints, in my opinion, include anything from animal prints to plaid, stripes, and floral. Sure, they are not necessarily all the same, but they’re all patterns which I think can look amazing alone or mixed, depending on how you do it.

Pastels // Romantic Style: I think this is an easier style to wear, but maybe you have trouble because it seems way too feminine or juvenile. I think it’s all in the way that you put things together that really decides whether an outfit is fun and lighthearted (or juvenile) or whether it’s a bit more mature and high fashion inspired. I also find that wearing pastels with floral and stark white, black, stripes, or neutral taupe and brown colors work well. Learn more about fun ways to wear pastels.

Neons // Brights: Neons and bright colors are really fun to wear for pops of color in otherwise monochrome or really basic outfits. In fact, I think adding a nice neon or brightly colored heel, accessory, or even a bright blouse can make your outfit look a million times more impressive. Learn more about how to wear the neon trend.

Asymmetrical // Crazy Cut Outs: I think wearing asymmetrical cuts or even the cut out fashion can be a nice, subtle way to add intrigue to an otherwise boring or simple outfit. Asymmetry gives the eye something unique to look at which can be especially flattering on a number of different body types while cut outs can accent your best assets such as your waistline, shoulders, etc.

Funky Hosiery // Statement Shoes: Fun tights and socks are a really fun (and cozy) way to spice up your fall and winter outfits and I think statement shoes are a great way to make plain outfits like monochrome, all white, or beige and neutrals really pop.

At the end of the day, I think it’s great to keep an open mind when it comes to fashion trends and deciding what to try. Some of these might seem like they’re totally out of the realm of your style, but I believe that you can incorporate any kind of piece into your personal style with a little imagination. The biggest part of personal style, in my opinion, is expressing yourself and inspiring yourself and others.

I’m like a million years behind the trend but I recently discovered my love for cheetah print. I can’t wait to rock it this Fall.

haha I always feel like I never follow the trend, even if I know it, but some of these just look like so much fun to try 🙂 I used to hate cheetah/leopard/ zebra prints, but now I kind of like them. It’s funny how our tastes change with time.

yeah I was previously really scared to do it, but then I discovered stripes + floral and OMG it was love haha

I love all of these, but I don’t think I’m brave enough to try most of them! I DO, however, love the heck out of some crazy patterned/ colored tights–at last count, I had them in regular black, grey, black with grey polka dots, orange, red, bright blue, and argyle. (Yes, argyle–they are sweater material and so, so awesome!!)

Haha yeah I know what you mean. I think new fashion trends and styles can be scary, but I think there’s a way to wear them that suits my own style in some way you know? And everyone has a look that they like which I think is unique to them.

You know, I used to think that exact same thing, but I really like prints now haha. I used to seriously hate them, but I just find myself more and more drawn to them over time. funny how our tastes change with time.

The one I haven’t really done yet is cut outs. All the others I did and/or do in one form or the other. But I am all for encouraging people to try out new things and have some fun dressing 😉

yeah I’ve done it a bit and I like the more subtle cut outs. I don’t like hugely dramatic ones, but I think it’s basically your taste and style you know? I’m glad you’ve tried out different kinds of fashion – it is so much fun to try new looks and discover new things about yourself 🙂

I love pastels together. Mixing patterns can be so chic when it’s done well. I think I’ll start trying this more often. Thanks for the inspiration!

I usually admire trends but I’m likely to admire from afar than I am to jump in and try.
