Top 20 Hydrating Foods For Eternal Youth + How To Incorporate Them Into Your Daily Life!

Happy Friday Everyone!

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful week and look forward to an even better weekend! Personally, I’m so happy the week is over. I’ve been looking after my boyfriend’s mom’s dogs all week and I think it’s a bit much for me so I’ll be glad to give that responsibility back to her this weekend! Anyhow, onto today’s post! Today’s post focuses on a number of hydrating foods that aid in keeping your skin in tip top shape! I thought that now is a great time to post on this as we are knee deep in winter and this is the time we’re most likely to battle dehydration, especially where beauty is concerned, but also in terms of our health. The reason for that is because we might be more likely to eat more carb heavy meals given how chilly it is outside and forget to get our 5-7 servings of fruits and vegetables in (which is totally understandable!).

I, myself, battle this as I’m of Italian, Sicilian, German,  & Dutch Irish heritage and all I crave in winter are comfort carbs. It feels like it might actually be hard coded into my blood somehow, but I know that if I don’t keep up on getting the healthy foods my body needs and make sure my water intake is where it needs to be, I am opening myself up to many illnesses, inflammation in the body ( not to mention the skin!) and a host of other worries which may often be caused from dehydration. So, instead of going through that madness, I’ll just sneakily figure out ways to get my greens in and I thought I’d give you all a list of my top favorite foods for optimal hydration and health AND show you how easy it can be to add them to your daily life!

Now, aside from helping to keep your skin more youthful looking, hydrated, smooth and wrinkle free, softer, and clear, these foods can also help defend against illness, premature aging and even improve your overall fitness level. Many of these also keep your eyes, nails, hair, bones and teeth in good condition as well so if those aren’t good enough reason to add them to your weekly meal plans, I don’t know what is! Oh, and some of these are not necessarily in season, but a great deal of them are so you should definitely be able to get hold of a some of these in your area.

Top 20 Hydrating Foods

  1. Water.
  2. Cucumbers.
  3. Eggplant (Aubergine).
  4. Mixed Greens (Spinach, Lettuce, Romaine Lettuce, Butter Lettuce, Arugula, Kale, Swiss Chard, Collard Greens, etc).
  5. Peaches & Pears.
  6. Apples.
  7. Zucchini & Other Squash.
  8. Watermelon.
  9. Bell Peppers.
  10. Pineapple, Kiwi & Mango.
  11. Carrots.
  12. Grapes.
  13. Berries (Strawberries, Blackberries, Blueberries, Goji Berries, Elderberries, etc.)
  14. Yogurt.
  15. Citrus Fruits (Grapefruit, Oranges, Mandarins, Lemons, etc).
  16. Broccoli.
  17. Celery.
  18. Tomatoes.
  19. Pumpkin.
  20. Cantaloupe & Honeydew Melon.

So, I’m sure you know at least some of the foods in the list I’ve made, but you may have trouble incorporating them into your diet. I know that if I didn’t have the internet { namely Pinterest LOL } to give me ideas on how to prepare some of these foods, I simply wouldn’t include them because either 1. I don’t know how to prepare them or 2. I don’t know what they would pair well with. So, thank goodness for the internet to give me good ideas!

Anyway, so one really good way to get hydration is by drinking water! I know, it sounds like an absolute no-brainer and, for some of you, maybe it is, but for others, maybe you hate the plain taste of water. I know my sister does, but what can help is natural flavors which can keep your water interesting to your palate. I do this by adding whole fruits and veggies to pitchers filled with water. You may have seen some of this action on Instagram, if you follow me,(@StorybookBeauty), over the past summer. Some of my favorites include mint leaves, cucumber, berries of any kind, mango, pineapple, lemon, and peaches! You can mix some together – for instance, cucumber and mint is SUPER refreshing – or do them separately and it definitely gives water a bit more flavor. Another way I’ve been able to get my water intake is by purchasing a water canteen which I only use for tea and water and take with me everywhere. Always having it on hand reminds me that I need to fill up and I get more water every day without even trying!

Other than straight drinking water for hydration, you can ingest foods. I know for some of these, you may or may not want to eat them directly. I had a close friend who really hated the texture of lettuce growing up and so, for those of you who have this issue or don’t enjoy the food alone, I highly recommend blending it into a smoothie, juice or soup.

I know, I know – this does mean you will still have to be ingesting said foods, but hey, you may learn to like it more in a different form! Say, for instance, spinach – when mixed into smoothies, you cannot even taste it. I promise – I mean, Would I lie to you?

Anyway, but seriously. Some foods, when blended, cannot even be noticed really, but you still get the health benefits of them. Juicing is a bit different, though, as I still notice the flavor a bit more there, but not so much that it’s a bother. I would start with smoothies and work your way to juices as you get accustomed to it. Also, adding vegetables to soups is another great way to get both hydration and your veggie quota in all at once. Not only that, but there are TONS of different soup varieties and ways to make them that you could plausibly get all your veggies into 1 or 3 soups and not be bored by it.

That’s all I’ve got for now, but I hope you found this helpful and if you have any other tips, tricks and recommendations on how to easily incorporate healthy foods into daily life, definitely let me know in the comments as I’m always looking for easy ways to be healthy!

Have a Great Weekend!

I love winter because I can have giant bowls of soups, and I try to add veggies to my carb by cooking them together. Like lentils with carrots and onions, or rice cooked with squash. Peppers and spinash also make a delicious side for rice and pasta 🙂
And I LOVE baked fruits! Also, herbal tea is the only thing I can drink to hydrate when it’s -15 outside!
Thanks for sharing your tips 🙂
