The TV Show You MUST Watch: Orphan Black
I’m really excited to share my latest TV show obsession with you guys today!
It’s a BBC America show called Orphan Black and it is AWESOME.
I’m obviously a little late on this as the show just started it’s third season, but I saw a trailer for season 3 on TV and immediately went to buy the entire first season on blu ray. I was NOT disappointed!!
Orphan Black centers on Sarah, a misfit orphan (in her 20’s?) trying to escape her seedy criminal past. Her life is turned upside down when she witnesses a woman who looks just like her throw herself in front of a speeding train. The conspiracy piles up as she discovers there are many different seemingly identical clone versions of herself in the world. The story focuses on Sarah and a few other “clones” of her trying to uncover the mystery of their creation.
Why the Show Is Awesome + Reasons You NEED to Watch It:
- The show is action packed, super suspenseful, and the story is intricate and interesting! If you like shows like Heroes, Misfits, and/or Grimm, you’ll definitely like this. It has a certain urban charm to it and the story gets more and more complicated as episodes go on. It will absolutely suck you in!
- The story’s plot is unique and fresh. Unlike many sci-fi shows out there today, this show has a plot that’s actually pretty refreshing. Not to say the whole “clone” angle has never been done before, but the story plot has a unique way of unfolding. I also think it’s interesting that the lead, Tatiana Maslany, plays all of the different clone versions of herself with extreme ease. She goes from one accent to another seamlessly. My acting self is seriously impressed – who wouldn’t love to land a show like this?!
- Each episode reveals something new and interesting – no filler episodes required! I can’t speak for the second or third seasons as I’m only just watching season 1, but after over 10 episodes I still have yet to encounter a filler episode so I find that really impressive. I absolutely hate when shows have filler episodes because it shows their story plot isn’t very dense and just generally wastes my valuable time. I like that the epsiodes always reveal something new about the story and it isn’t just 45 minutes of the characters running around for no real reason.
So, definitely check this show out if you enjoy sci-fi suspense mystery type shows as this is definitely up there with the best of them in my opinion!
You can learn more about the show on BBC America. I personally purchased the blu rays by season, but the show seems to be available via Amazon Prime, VUDU, XBox Live, Sony PSN, Itunes, and Google Play (for seasons 1 & 2) and the current season 3 is airing on BBC America on various cable providers.
