Moringa Oil Review
I was so thankful to be contacted by Moringa Connect, a unique company whose aim it is to end poverty, hunger, and all your beauty issues in one fell swoop, to review their beloved Moringa oil. Started by 2 brilliant minds, a Harvard economist and an MIT aerospace engineer, Emily and Kwami worked together to build a company that harnesses the power and beauty of the moringa trees in Africa while also improving the world, one miracle tree at a time.
The Miracle Tree
I was so moved by their passion for utilizing what many locals in Ghana call “the miracle tree” to help the smallholder farmers in the area because they’re working to take something so simple and small and enact big change. That’s something I can definitely get behind! They help to provide sustainable income and a guaranteed market to nearly 700 farmers in Ghana. They provide things like organic fertilizer, nutrition training, seeds, and agricultural training to the locals, thereby creating a small, but sustainable economy for the people in the region to support themselves, their families and live better lives.
The moringa tree, commonly referred to by locals as the “miracle tree,” has more vitamin A than carrots, more protein than eggs, more calcium than milk, and more iron than spinach. Not only can this tree have the potential to help end hunger and malnutrition for the people of the area, but it can also provide a sustainable food source to the farmers as well.
The Benefits of Moringa Oil
The moringa tree’s seeds are rich in antioxidants, moisturizing agents, and vitamins which can help heal, soften, condition, hydrate, and protect the skin’s natural barrier while fighting the signs of aging (fine lines, wrinkles, UV damage).
Moringa Connect makes only the best unrefined, cold-pressed in a heat-controlled environment to preserve the oil’s color, nutritional quality, and crucial fatty acids and protein structures. It’s 100% natural and includes no chemical additives or anything unsavory. The particular moringa oil I trialed was enriched with a lovely lemongrass essential oil which gave it the most deliciously uplifting scent! The added lemongrass EO also lends astringent and antibacterial properties to an already brilliant oil that you can use on your hair, skin, and nails as desired.
What I Love
I used this oil all over my body, hair, nails and face. At some point, I even used it to remove makeup and also tried out it’s efficacy as a makeshift cleansing oil. I love using this as a multi-purpose oil and the wonderful lemongrass scent makes this especially pleasant to use in the morning. It’s extremely thick and hydrating, but did not break my skin out at all which was wonderful as I sometimes have trouble using heavier plant oils on my face. It’s also lovely for flyaways and frizz and dry nails. For use as a cleansing oil or makeup remover, I will say that it works brilliantly, but it does leave a slight residue on skin unless you use a warm washcloth to rinse your skin. It’s a brilliant massage oil for body and facial massages alike and I love that this oil supports an initiative to help Ghana farmers and locals uphold a sustainable economy and to live better lives. I’m all about hand ups – not hand outs.
