The Best Makeup Products for Acne Prone Skin
I decided to do a part 2 to the post I did last week, The Best Skincare Products for Acne Prone Skin, as a lot of people seemed to really appreciate and enjoy it so I thought doing one on makeup would be fun and helpful as well. For me personally, I struggled with makeup for years. In high school, I used mostly drugstore liquid foundation and occasionally MAC Studio Fix Powder and all of the above were constantly making my skin break out. This was certainly before anyone knew much or cared about what went into beauty products, but I don’t think I was alone in having any products break my skin out. In fact, back then, many products contained a lot of irritants and pore-clogging ingredients (like mineral oil or talc) which would leave me frustrated and with a face full of acne. This led me on a very long journey to finding the right products for acne prone skin that would not only not break my skin out, but also help treat and improve my skin while wearing them. Here are some of my favorite makeup products for acne prone skin or even just that I prefer to wear when my skin is inflamed, irritated or broken out.
ILIA Beauty Multi-Stick in I Put A Spell On You – This creamy multi-stick from ILIA Beauty is such a pretty peachy pink color and it’s so useful for lips, cheeks and even eyes! On top of that, it’s formulated with all natural and certified organic oils and butters as well as natural mica and vitamin E so it will soften, nourish, condition and heal your skin while you wear it! Also, ILIA Beauty products never include any harmful or pore-clogging ingredients so it will never break you out. See my original review on this – HERE ♥
RMS Beauty Un-Cover Up – This is my favorite all natural organic foundation and concealer duo. It combines all the aesthetic benefits of liquid and cream foundations, but uses none of the nasty harmful chemical ingredients. Instead, it’s set in a base of certified organic plant oils and butters, non-GMO vitamin E and rosemary extract so your skin will be hydrated, softened, protected, and nourished during use while also giving you the coverage and polished makeup look you want without any of the breakout backlash. This stuff is amazing. It even covers my dark circles and when you set it with powder, especially the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, it will give near to full coverage that looks so polished and beautiful! ILIA Beauty Tinted Lip Conditioner in Blossom Lady – I love the ILIA Beauty lipsticks, but if your skin is troubled and needs nourishment, their Tinted Lip Conditioners are the perfect choice for that added healing and protection that dry lips need. Also, I included these in the list because, in the past, a lot of lipsticks and lipglosses would give me little acne breakouts around my mouth (YUCK!) and lips, literally making me look like I had a herpes breakout, and I think it’s important to use natural lip products if you’re someone like me who truly is sensitive. These come in a nice lineup of beautiful colors with a lot of variety and they’re formulated with all natural and certified organic ingredients so you can use them without worry. Korres Vitamin E Silicone-Free Face Primer – This is one of the very first products I discovered out of this list that truly helped prevent breakouts. It’s not that it treats breakouts because there’s nothing on the package that says it does, but it’s so gentle, naturally formulated with gentle plant ingredients, and it’s silicone-free (silicone, since it fills in pores, will often cause breakouts in acne prone skin) which means you won’t break out. This primer is fantastic for using as a makeup base ( as advertised ), but I’ve also used it at the end of my nightly skincare routine to seal everything in and it’s great for that as well. Plus, it smells delicious – like grapefruit! See my original review on this – HERE ♥
Living Nature Eyeliner in Midnight – This is a more recent discovery, but I thought it was worth including as it’s formulated with certified organic New Zealand plant ingredients including plant oils, waxes and extracts for gentle, but effective fluid eyeliner. Plus, the pigmentation on this is fantastic and goes up against my MAC kohl eyeliner pretty well! See my original review on this – HERE ♥
Alima Pure Satin Matte Foundation – This is an oldie, but a goodie! I discovered this a few years ago amidst my quest for the best skincare and makeup for my skin that was almost always breaking out. This was one of the first holy grail products that I found and it’s my favorite powder foundation, hands down. This is the closest natural mineral makeup alternative that I’ve found actually comes close to the full coverage level that you can get with MAC Studio Fix, but it’s formulated with all natural minerals and no pore-clogging nasties. I love wearing this when my skin is irritated or broken out because it’s brilliant for covering redness and keeping skin calm throughout the day. See my original review on this – HERE ♥
Alima Pure Satin Matte Blush – Formulated in a similar way to their powder foundation, this satin matte blush is so naturally pretty, but super pigmented and it’s definitely capable of being built up to more dramatic looks. I’ve also used these as eye shadows to great effect and I just generally love using them and having them around. Since they’re made of all natural minerals, they never break my skin out and the entire lineup from Alima Pure is super affordable so there’s that too. See my original review on this – HERE ♥
