summer beauty foods for better skin

Everyone wants great skin and it becomes ever-more important once summer hits. We tend to wear less makeup and opt for lighter cosmetics which enhance our glow, bronze, and flaunt our natural features. For anyone struggling with their skin or anyone wanting to optimize their skin’s condition during the summer, here are the summer foods that will improve your skin and help you feel and look your best ♥

Watermelon

Watermelon is rich in Lycopene, Vitamin A & C

Watermelon is one of my favorite summer beauty foods because it’s so high in water content. It’s over 90% water so it makes a great snack on hot summer days when you’re craving something sweet or just want to munch on something healthy.

coconut- summer beauty foods

Coconut

Coconut is rich in Lauric Acid, Vitamin E & Protein (Essential Fatty Acids AKA the building blocks of skin)

Coconuts are wonderful for a number of reasons. First off, they’re freaking delicious. Secondly, you can eat the coconut meat, dried coconut (unsweetened kind), and coconut water. Coconut water is high in electrolytes which is brilliant for keeping you ultra-hydrated on hot days. Plus, it’s deliciously sweet taste is a perfect alternative to sugary drinks. It tastes brilliant blended with fresh pineapple and ice. You can also simply eat coconut or add coconut oil to smoothies. Coconuts are rich in vitamin E, a number of essential fatty acids, and proteins which are all great for hydrating, smoothing, and softening your skin while also fighting off bacteria and infections (like acne and other skin irritations).

Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits like lime, lemon, and grapefruit are rich in Vitamin C (NEEDED for collage production!), Folate, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium & Other Essential B Vitamins

Citrus fruits are amazing during the summer. Not only are they a great source of collagen-producing vitamin C, but they add a refreshing twist to water, sparkling soda, and cocktails. I love infusing them in water with strawberries and mint leaves.  Surprisingly, citrus fruits are also rich in potassium, folate, and other needed vitamins and minerals so they’re great for stress relief, soothing and uplifting your mood, and rebuilding your skin so it’s firm, plump and moist hydrated.

Cucumber

Cucumber is rich in Vitamins C & K, Manganese, & Beta-Carotene

Cucumbers are not only refreshing and delicious, but they’re good for you! They add a nice, crispy texture to salads or make infused water with cucumber slices and mint! They’re great with feta and a little olive oil as a snack or even just with a sprinkle of sea salt. If you prefer something spicy, try cucumber slices with lemon, chili powder, and some sea salt. The beauty benefits of cucumber of massive. They can reduce puffiness in the skin and under the eyes, cool inflammation and redness (including from sun burns), hydrate and tone skin, give skin a glow and even out pigmentation.

Berries

Berries are rich in Antioxidants (like Vitamin C) & Essential Fatty Acids

Berries are wonderful for you. They are both tart and sweet, high in disease-fighting antioxidants, and offer up a good source of fiber, and vitamins and minerals. They’re great for cardiovascular health, fight off cancer, vision health, hair growth, and a number of other things. Blend them into a smoothie or juice, infuse them in your water, or eat them as is for a delicious treat.

Summer Beauty Foods that Will Improve Your Skin

Pineapple & Papaya

Pineapple and papaya are rich in Bromelain, Vitamin C, Antioxidants and More!

Pineapple and papaya are nearly synonymous with summer. Both are high the enzyme bromelain which can help digest your foods, brighten uneven complexion, fight off acne, and even help with arthritis. It helps give your skin a glow while vitamin C and other minerals encourage collagen production and help you find your zen. I love pineapple and papaya as is or blended into fruit smoothies with other fruits like mango, berries, and banana. They’re also delicious in cocktails and over frozen yogurt ( I like using frozen banana instead of dairy which can inflame skin for some).

fish

Fish

Fish is rich in Omega Fatty Acids, Protein, & Vitamin E

Fish is a great way to get protein, healthy fats, and other essential nutrients all in one go. It’s great for anyone seeking good skin because fish is high in omega fatty acids which are essential to building your skin and keeping it healthy. I love salmon and tilapia, personally, but most fish has some kind of health benefit for you. Other great kinds of fish include tuna (avoid BlueFin please – it’s endangered!), Mahi Mahi, Cod, Halibut, and shellfish (like shrimp and crab) are great for acne because they are high in magnesium and zinc! Fish varieties are also great for things like Alzheimer’s Disease and easing depression and anxiety.

greens

Greens

Greens are a great source of Fiber, Vitamins and Minerals

Any kind of greens are fantastic for your skin and health because they’re rich in phyto-nutrients which help fight off cell oxidation and disease, they’re rich in fiber, vitamins, and valuable minerals you definitely need to feel and look your best. A mixed greens salad, grilled romaine or collard greens, or even some steamed spinach are a great addition to any summer meal and will do your body (and skin) a world of good.
