My Style Icon: Marion Cotillard

I did this thing the other day where I searched “Style Icon” on Pinterest and pinned a bunch of images that stood out to me until I recognized a pattern or a person whose style showed up repeatedly. Not surprisingly, the person whose style was most pinned was French actress Marion Cotillard.

Not only am I a huge fan of Marion Cotillard’s work since I first saw her in Jeux D’enfants (AKA Love Me If You Dare) with Gillaume Canet, but I’ve also loved her classic, simple sense of style that really seems effortless and beautiful. Here are some of my favorite looks, including a few beauty looks, and I’ve picked out some fashion and beauty items you can use to get a similar look to hers.

Marion Cotillard Style ♥

Structured Bags + Classic Dresses

I love that her style often includes these adorably feminine dresses and cute and colorful structured bags. It reminds me a lot of Kate Spade fashion which I also love. There’s a sense of romantic whimsy to it that is pretty timeless.

Classic Structured Slimline Dresses with Belts

Another style she often wears that is really lovely are the classic slim pencil dresses with belts. I love this look for a few reasons. One reason is that it looks pretty on everyone, no matter your shape because it shows your feminine figure and secondly, the belt accents your waist and makes it look smaller so even if you don’t have an hourglass figure, it gives the illusion of having one. I also think this look works well for both work and going out so you don’t have to change if you want to go out for drinks after work!

Soft, Romantic Textures & Sky High Heels

Often times, Marion Cotillard can be seen in beautifully romantic textures. From lace to velvet, she always looks so classic and polished, but it seems like it didn’t take much effort. She seems to use staple pieces to pull it off. For instance, a figure-hugging velvet coat, a lace top or textured skirt and high heels all accent a pretty outfit without a whole lot of trouble.

Long Flowy Romantic Dresses

Romantic dresses, especially in red, are commonplace with Marion Cotillard and she does it really well.

Ladylike Tailored Midi & Maxi Skirts

I feel like Marion Cotillard has such a classic French woman style. She always seems to be wearing delightfully tailored fashion pieces when she’s photographed and the effect is so pretty! I think anyone can wear this style and it would be especially lovely and appropriate for office attire.

Casual Flowy Bohemian Tops

When she’s not on the red carpet, she’s often seen in jeans and flowy tank tops like the one shown above. I really love this look because it’s not only comfortable, but also pretty.

Ladylike Dresses & Blouses

Marion Cotillard wears a lot of dresses and tops with this lovely bow tie-neck style and the effect is very romantic, ladylike and proper. I really love the look because it’s perfect for anything – going out to a nice dinner or party and even office attire.

Stylish Trench Coats

I love that Marion Cotillard wears trench coats in a way that seems fashionable instead of just functional. Not that trench coats aren’t fashionable, but there’s a way to wearing them, I suppose, that looks more stylish than someone who just wears one because it’s rainy. I think these go great with office attire and as a lighter coat option over pretty dresses.

Bare Faced Beauty

Just as she effortlessly rocks her sense of style, Marion can rock a bare face or possibly a barely there makeup look. I think there’s something so beautiful about not wearing makeup or at the very least – making it look like you’re not wearing much makeup. It’s clean and pretty and requires little effort in the makeup department.

Classic Red Lips

This is pretty classic beauty and is especially classically French, in my opinion, but Marion Cotillard mostly wears a nude or red lip. Red lips are beautiful and look very glam, dressing up any outfit.

Neutral Smokey Eyes + Nude Lips

As I was saying, Marion Cotillard tends to stick with minimal eyes and red lips or smokey eyes and nude lips as shown above. I really love the smokey eye makeup look here because they didn’t just use black; they’ve actually utilized varying shades of brown, taupe and other neutral colors which makes her blue eyes really pop.

Hardly any of those photos show MC’s real style – they are movie, magazine or otherwise styled photos, even the red carpet one, where she presumably chose her own dress.
I bet her real style is nothing like her public style, after all, she’s French… LOL

lol you might be right, but as far as I could tell from Google, her style is basically the same both ways, but her non-public outfits are a bit more casual. So, for instance, where she wears a lot of romantic pieces for photo calls and press, she still wears romantic pieces off camera, but a little more casual – mainly the same from what I can tell though. Agree about her being French as they tend to have low maintenance, but chic fashion sense, but honestly, she’s a celebrity. We will never really know her “real” style or likes and dislikes. People who live their life in the public eye tend to be seen in a certain way, despite whoever they might actually be in real life you know? thanks for stopping by, by the way 🙂
