My Latest Beauty Brand Obsession: Hourglass Cosmetics!

Do you ever discover something so awesome you feel obligated to share?

That’s pretty much what happened to me this weekend over and over again as I did a LOT of shopping and discovered some amazing things!

Arguably, the coolest thing I discovered is a new brand that I tried on a complete whim and they are called Hourglass Cosmetics. Hourglass Cosmetics is a cruelty-free high end, somewhat indie, cosmetics brand that was founded by Carisa Janes, a beauty industry veteran, in 2004 with hopes of combining science, beauty and luxury to create completely unique and innovative cosmetic formulas that not only provide aesthetic beauty to customers, but also offer long term results and improve the overall condition of the skin over time. They’ve been praised for their unique, scientific cosmetic formulas which work to help hydrate, smooth and condition skin with potent ingredients all in your foundation, primer and lipstick.

Hourglass Veil Fluid Makeup in Porcelain 0

New HG Foundation Love

I had done some research on face foundations before I headed to my local Sephora for their annual VIB sale because I wanted to get a more hydrating foundation for the colder, harsher winter months. Reading online, there were tons of options, but the Hourglass Veil Fluid Makeup Foundation stood out to me for it’s use as a treatment foundation. It’s oil-free, does not include parabens, phthalate, sulfates, or fragrance and is vegan-friendly. It includes potent ingredients which claim to help fight and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles while also hydrating the skin. The most notable ingredients are a 3% inclusion of peptide Matrixyl® Synthe’6™ which they claim helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and is a less irritating option to Retin-A (acne/wrinkle fighter retinol (vitamin A) derivative). Next they include Skin Tightener ST™ PH, a plant based ingredients meant to tighten, lift and smooth skin and Vitamin E to soften and hydrate. The foundation also includes a broad spectrum sunscreen at SPF15. There was a very helpful Hourglass makeup artist on hand at my Sephora so I was really lucky to be color matched right then and there to their lightest shade, Porcelain 0.

I’ve literally worn this foundation every single day since I bought it on Saturday and I LOVE it! It looks so flawless and beautiful on the skin. It has a very satin silky finish to it that just looks like your skin, only a bit more perfected and I love that. I hate to feel like I’m wearing a mask or something and I don’t like overly heavy cakey makeup. This is NOT like that at all! It goes on beautifully, blends out seamlessly and looks very natural. The coverage can be medium if you apply a thin layer and can be easily built up to full coverage with a second or third layer. I love how this foundation works really well with their No. 28 Serum Primer which I also picked up.

Hourglass No.28 Serum and Primer

A Treatment Primer With Skincare Benefits that Blurs Imperfections

So, as I said, I picked up this No.28 Serum and Primer along with the Mineral Veil Primer in a duo trial set at Sephora so I could try them both out. I really enjoyed trying both of them out, to be honest, but I fell so in love with the No.28 Serum and Primer that I already went ahead and purchased the full size of it. Basically, it’s a serum and primer in one which contains 14 essential oils and 10 plant oils to hydrate and soften the skin as well as vitamins A, B5, C, & E to nourish and rejuvenate skin. The formula is water-resistant and free of parabens, phthalates, sulfates, & synthetic dyes as well as vegan-friendly.

The thing about this serum is that it feels like a typical primer and by that I mean it has that silky silicone feel ( formula does include dimethicone) and I was actually really freaked out about trying this because I was convinced it would break my skin out. You might know about my traumatic experience with trying primers out in the past, but if not, you can learn more – here. Anyhow, so I was fully expecting this primer to break me out like every other silicone based primer I’ve ever tried, but it didn’t. I don’t know if it’s the inclusion of plant and essential oils that calmed my skin or what, but this goes on like a dream, blurs imperfections and actually makes my skin look less red. It does seem to shrink pores a little, but there hasn’t been any issue with clogged pores at all (knock on wood!). It is beautiful to use underneath the Hourglass Veil Fluid Makeup and it actually seems to help my moisturizers in being more effective at hydrating my skin. I was so jazzed about this primer that I used it a few nights over my nightly skincare to seal them in and it really helped my skin out! Normally I wake up with somewhat ruddy looking skin until I wash my face (then I look normal again LOL), but this serum made my skin look dewy before I even washed my face or anything. Needless to say, I’m in love with this serum+primer combo and I’ve already purchased the full size.

Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer

A Solid Mineral Primer for Oily Skin Types

The Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer was also in with the No.28 Serum and Primer in the duo trial set I tried out and while I really liked it, it just didn’t have the wow factor that the No.28 Serum and Primer had for me. Don’t get me wrong because this is still a great primer; it didn’t break me out, it has a white tint to it which calms redness and it includes a sunscreen SPF15 in it which I think is cool, but it just doesn’t offer the skincare benefits that the No.28 Serum and Primer does and that’s something I like to have in all of my beauty products. That being said, this primer is a LOT lighter on the skin than the No.28 Serum and Primer and I think it’s a lot more suited to those with oily or combination to oily skin types given that it’s mineral based. It’s not nearly as hydrating as the No.28 Serum and Primer so if you don’t need hydration or want the skincare benefits, the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer is a solid primer for general redness reduction and prepping the skin for foundation as it looks lovely underneath the Hourglass Veil Fluid Makeup as well.

Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick

Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick

Longlasting & Pigmented Lips + Hydration

This is not a product that I bought, but my boyfriend’s mom purchased a few of them and I’ve been kind of borrowing them all weekend haha. These opaque liquid lipsticks come in a lip gloss type tube and go on SUPER pigmented, dry down to a semi-matte and are NOT drying. I really love super opaque lip colors, but they can have their drawbacks because they’re usually really drying to the lips. This one ISN’T! Instead, it’s hydrating while you wear it and uses vitamins A, C & E, skin-conditioning emollients, and a ton of antioxidant extracts to keep your lips in great shape. They have a host of lovely, vibrant colors available including varying shades of red, pink, nudey pink, and coral, but I’m loving this true red color called Opaque Rouge because it’s a vibrant red that doesn’t look too orange.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette

A Highlighting Palette for All Skin Tones that Lights Up Your Face WITHOUT Shimmer or Glitter!

This last item from Hourglass is their Ambient Lighting Palette which I didn’t purchase because I didn’t have enough money (Hourglass is pricey, but worth it!), but the Hourglass makeup artist put it on me and I think it’s definitely worth a mention because it has the most beautiful effect on skin! It literally makes your entire face glow, but without looking shiny, glittery or like you got smacked in the face with shimmer powder. It just looks really beautiful, like the light is hitting you JUST RIGHT. The palette includes 3 colors, including their limited edition highlighting powder called Incandescent Light and their classic highlighters in Dim Light and Radiant Light which will lend differing effects to your skin. The finish of these powders is something I really haven’t seen before because it’s not shimmery nor glittery or shiny; it just looks beautiful and pretty. I think it’s especially impressive that they’ve found a way to formulate highlighting powders without making them look shimmery or shiny AT ALL. I definitely think this palette is a must-have if you’re a fan of that “glowy” look and I’ll be picking one up for myself as soon as my bank account allows!

EDIT – They no longer carry this trio, but you can check out my review for the Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light – HERE

UPDATE: You can actually get this palette again – HERE

Thank you so much! They’re both beautiful but Empress is perfect for fall! If you want to try out a true red, Icon is the only one they have in a mini size for $10 . In the last photo I’m actually wearing a blush as eye shadow for the main color and it’s Rimmel’s 001 Santa Rose powder blush. For the outer v I used urban decay’s Twice Baked. For highlighting the brow bone I used urban decay’s Sin. And then the inner eye area I used a random copper shadow I had on hand :) hope this helps!
