I’m super excited to share the first review (of two!) for Madflowers week! This very uniquely made bronzing oil is something special indeed. If you have no idea what I’m on about, check here first and then come back
I was fortunate enough to be sent a small sample of this bronzing oil and it is SO beautiful!
Not only is it lovely on the skin, but it’s also naturally formulated with henna so it does actually tint your skin a bit, though nothing drastic. Actually, the beauty of it all is that the henna will basically “self tan” your skin, but you don’t have to worry about the shade being too dark because it seems to adjust to your skin tone. Aside from the henna in, they also use slight shimmery bronze mica for a bit of instant bronze while the henna develops, a lovely natural fragrance free of synthetic ingredients, and nourishing natural plant oils.
The fragrance is a carefully selected blend of essential oils from lily of the valley to lavender, freesia, linden blossom and coriander which all come together for a unique scent that you could wear alone on the skin if you didn’t want to wear an added perfume. This would be enough to scent the skin very subtly.
With the unique henna extracts, your skin will darken more and more with each added application so you can select the level of your tan by how many layers you decide to apply. I think this is very unique because it takes away the complications of having to decide which tan “shade” is right for you with conventional tans; this does it all! As if a natural self-tanner wasn’t magical enough, henna also provides some natural sun protection. I don’t think it should take the place of your sunscreen, but if you would otherwise not wear sunscreen (like my friend Rachel who refuses to!), this certainly offers more protection than most other body oils and you’ll still get a nice glow! I was surprised at how much I really enjoyed this bronzing oil because I didn’t really know what to expect. I love using henna and I’ve even used it in the past to color my hair (Lush henna blocks anyone?) and they smelled AWFUL. This isn’t like that! This smells lovely and there isn’t even a hint of any unpleasant scent or anything. It smells very floral and pretty; very feminine and empowering, in my opinion.
The oil is made up of a number of essential oils which play into it’s beautiful fragrance as well as assisting with skin elasticity, stress-relief, cell regeneration, healing and anxiety. The main plant oil used is the kukui nut oil which helps to hydrate and soothe, but goes on very light and absorbs into the skin easily. There’s no heavy feeling with this oil at all. It works best when applied to damp skin straight out of the shower and you can layer the oil for a more intense tan, as desired. The color will develop throughout the day and even a bit the following day, with my experience.
I highly recommend this lovely oil, not only for a “fake” tan year round that will never streak or look funny on your skin, but because the ingredients are all natural and made without any funky chemical nonsense. The ingredients are all plant based and give your skin a suitable natural color while healing, hydrating and softening.
