Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette Review

I got this Ambient Lighting Blush Palette back in November during the Sephora Friends and Family sale event and I’ve been pretty obsessed with using it ever since! Not only are the colors gorgeous, but the finish and effect is really unparalleled to other blushes I’ve tried and I’ve tried tons. In the past, I actually kind of steered clear of blush a lot of the time because I do deal with redness and many blushes often accented the redness instead of lending a glow, natural flush or looking pretty. I had some success with Alima Pure blushes, but I don’t always want a matte finish so this palette offers a nice satin, glowy blush look that I really love and you can achieve the look with very little effort at all. According to Hourglass, they utilize a “Photoluminescent Technology” which works to give your complexion depth and dimension. I’m not really sure what that means, but you can definitely tell in the effects of this blush!

Here’s a look at my actual palette so you can see I really purchased it. If you’re ever curious to get proof of me trying things, follow me on instagram and you’ll see photos of nearly every single thing I’ve tried from skincare to makeup to hair care. I share almost everything and you can comment and request photos or swatches in specific lighting, ask questions about products, etc. I’m always happy to help!

Here are 2 different makeup looks I did, both using this blush palette, but to totally different effects.

Color Descriptions:

  • Luminous Flush – Champagne Rose Blush – a brighter glowing pink
  • Incandescent Electra – Cool Peach Blush – a soft flushed peach
  • Mood Exposure – Soft Plum Blush – a subtle lilac complexion brightener

The packaging of this palette looks super luxury level, but it’s actually plastic and quite a bit smaller than you might think. That being said, you need very little blush to get the effects you want so I would imagine it will take a million years for me to hit pan on them. Also, despite being made of plastic, the case it still really nice and looks very pretty on my bathroom counter and in my makeup bag!

Gothic Makeup Look

With this more goth makeup look, I used Mood Exposure – a soft plum blush that’s more on the cool side than the other 2 colors. This makes it perfect for more pale complexions and gothic makeup looks. It is strange because it somehow brightens the complexion, but it still looks subtle and soft.

This is using the Incandescent Electra blush and you can see it definitely gives the skin a bit of a glow and peach colors look better on my skin that pink so I really enjoy this color for pretty flushed cheeks.

I haven’t used the Luminous Flush all that much because, in my opinion, it’s really too pink on me and it’s the most dramatic color of the 3 in this palette. I really love this palette and after having a lot of trouble finding the perfect blush colors for literally years, I feel like I’ve finally found blushes that work incredibly well on my skin. It’s also free from talc, parabens, and fragrance and it has not made my acne prone skin break out at all so I’m really happy about that as well. I honestly can’t recommend them enough!

You can’t get this palette at Sephora anymore, but the single blushes are now available there.

omg it is AMAZING. I am obsessed. I used to not wear blush because a lot of them tend to accent redness or just make me look unflatteringly pink or whichever. These colors are gorgeous and they actually look the way you want blush to look. Can’t say enough good things about them. Love this palette ♥ thanks for stopping by Marie!

I am a huge fan of Hourglass cosmetics. I’m vegan and they actually make stuff I can use, which can be *so* tricky to find good quality vegan foundation for my sensitive, picky, everything-prone skin. I do quite like the colour palette here. Do they have a sort of shimmer or iridescence to them? With my oily skin, I try to avoid a bit of shine as I already have enough of it naturally, hehe.

Me too! I love that their product formulas are relatively clean despite not being totally green and their products are amazing. These blushes are awesome. I’m so NOT a fan of shimmer or glitter and these I love. They probably have a tiny bit of shimmer, but it’s not noticeable and it doesn’t make me look shiny at all. I know exactly what you mean with looking shiny and these don’t do that lol. hope this helps ♥

I really only hear amazing things about this palette, but I just got NARS Orgasm. Maybe this will be my next big purchase. 😉

I have been dying to pick this up – I’m such a sucker for pretty palettes + packaging. The shades look beautiful on you! Peach colors look better on my face than pinks as well, so I’d definitely love Electra!
