I’m taking a short break from Random Friday Favorites to bring you some fun Halloween content so I hope you don’t mind the change for a bit! I told myself that I would wait until the last week of September before I started railroading you guys with Halloween posts, but I changed my mind. #SorryNotSorry I just cannot wait or contain myself! I took a trip to Spirit Halloween yesterday and now I’m all Halloween inspired! So, I thought I would share some amazing Halloween costume ideas from Etsy because so many of them are incredible and a lot of them are custom, handmade Halloween costumes. It’s kind of good to share this early, I suppose, because you might need to save up a little before splurging on one of these awesome costumes! That said, if nothing else, they serve as some wonderful costume inspiration so I hope you enjoy!
Halloween Costume Ideas from Etsy
This is a wonderful addition to any period costume! The skirt will pretty much make the costume, in my opinion, and this one is ideal for Renaissance period. You could do tons of costume with this kind of skirt: period correct pirate wench, Victorian lady (or Marie Antoinette herself), and even a Renaissance era ghost!
Who doesn’t love hipster Ariel? For those of you who want to stick to a more simple costume, these mermaid leggings are the perfect solution! Make your own shell bra or pick up a cute crop top with a sea theme and there you have it; you’re now the hipster version of The Little Mermaid. Way to be edgy 😉
I’ll be honest here and tell you that I literally have no idea who Lalaloopsy is. I’ve heard of it, but I really just thought the costume was legitimately creepy and had to include it in my roundup. Anyone know who Lalaloopsy is? Explain in the comments please! For more creepy button eye inspiration, check out my Other Coraline Makeup or AHS Mime makeup looks!
Although not technically a Halloween costume, this could serve as one because of the gorgeous flower petal design of the skirt. It reminded me so much of the jerk flowers from Alice in Wonderland so I thought it would be fun to include. You could literally be a flower for Halloween this year 😉
I had to include some kind of voodoo queen costume because I am seriously obsessed with the character, Calypso, from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. I just thought she was amazing in the films and I loved everything about her character and costume. That said, you could be just a voodoo queen, swamp witch or even just a dead/zombie version of any of the above.
I couldn’t resist including a steampunk costume in this roundup because Etsy has so many amazing steampunk costumes and ideas. You can even purchase custom made steampunk guns (fake, of course) made out of nerf guns. It’s impressive how creative people are! Also, I love how cool steampunk looks!
I normally wouldn’t include a typical witch costume just because I think it’s so, well, predictable, but I actually really love this version! It makes me think I should be a witch again this year. Did I ever mention how I once dressed up as a witch for 3 years in a row? Well, for good reason, people! I also wore that same witch costume into January. I was a weird kid…
Alice in Wonderland is such a fun costume because you can really make it into many different styles. You can go traditional after the book or film version. You can transform into a Tim Burton style one. There’s even the Syfy Alice version which is more modern, American McGee’s creepy Alice, and Malice in Wonderland. You could even go a step further and turn her into a zombie, ghost or sugar skull if you want to get really creative!
I’ve never played Bioshock (I keep meaning to, but no time!), but my boyfriend is obsessed with these games and I love the style of it! It’s somewhere between steampunk and period costume with a lot of creepiness! Do you guys love dressing up as video game characters for Halloween? What’s your stance on that?
I’m pretty burnt out on all things Frozen, but for those of you looking for an adult Elsa costume, here it is! I love how shimmery they made the bottom; very icy!
This is another costume favorite from Etsy out of the ones that I spotted! I love zombie costumes and this one, in particular, is so creative! Who would have thought to combine retro pinup style with zombies? LOVE IT!
Pirates are a total costume classic, am I right? Pirates are so much fun and I love the fact that you have an excuse to carry around a fake sword (that you may or may not smack annoying people with…).
Back in high school, I dressed up as Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas and I really wish I could find the one photo I have of that! It was a photo my friend took of us when we went to this Halloween party, but I stupidly lost it. Another bites the dust in the sad black hole that we call Myspace… Anyone else lose all their photos to Myspace?
With the upcoming Star Wars movie reboot, I’m sure there will be a TON of Star Wars costumes out there this year! I love this classic Princess Leia costume, but Etsy also has tons of Padme costumes, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and tons more. I’ll be dressing my dogs up as Ewoks this year, you know, for obvious reasons…
I’m sure that comic book heroes and villains will be big again this year and who doesn’t love Poison Ivy? She’s the green sidekick of Harley Quinn in the cartoons and she’s super eco-friendly 😛
I thought this was such a cool twist on the Little Red Riding Hood that I had to include it! It’s a scarier version of Little Red and I think that gives it a lot more uniqueness.
I had to include something for Harley Quinn because I love her so much! I’m not sure how I feel about the Suicide Squad version of Harley Quinn, but I know you guys are probably really excited about it so I’ve included this one as it was one of the few costumes that includes every aspect of the film costume. If you want more inspiration, you can check out my Harley Quinn costume and makeup as well ♥
I had to include this because, although I have no children, I just thought this was SO adorable! I think if you have kids, this would be the cutest costume EVER.
Speaking of kids, this non-toxic Halloween makeup is perfect for using on your kids without causing irritations. It’s also great if you want more natural ingredients this year and the kit is really decently priced!
