The following is a guest post from my new blogger friend, Natalia, sharing her favorite ingredients for sensitive skin so I hope you guys enjoy 🙂
Soothing Ingredients for Better Skin
First! A little thanks to Tianna for accepting me in her blog, I’m so happy we’ve got to know each other and I hope we can continue being the best of friends <3
I have always had sensitive skin, and almost anything can irritate it but I’ve managed through the years well enough (and even got used to it). However, recently, my mom has reached that age and with the changes came very sensitive skin and there was nothing that would truly calm it! One day though, something clicked on me and I ordered natural raw ingredients to make my own soothing balm! And what happened? It worked! So, I thought that since Tianna is a green beauty, I would bring her readers an informative post about which ingredients you should look for if you have sensitive, reactive skin (including acne rosacea, burning, stinging, contact dermatitis).
Chamomile is a calming herb that also provides moisturizing properties. It’s a natural anti-inflammatory that also helps speed up wound healing. It contains unique chemicals – including chamazulene α –bisabolol, flavanoids, luteolin, apigenin and quercetin – that soothes skin by stopping the release of inflammatory histamines being found to be about as effective as hydrocortisone!
Calendula is antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral making it helpful with stubborn wounds, acne, ulcers, bed sores, varicose veins, rashes, eczema, and related conditions. It addresses sore, inflamed, and itchy skin. Calendula oil is a great moisturizer for dry skin and for severely chapped or split skin.
It is the most known out there and for good reason! Aloe vera is a gel-like sap that naturally counteracts inflammation, which can help reduce rashes. It also has been shown in studies to speed up wound healing, which can promote the formation of new, healthy skin cells. Perfect for all skin types, aloe is a calming ingredient that naturally helps tame inflammation.
Important! In order to be effective, look for high concentrations of it: 70%+
My favorite natural ingredient for calm and baby soft skin! Derived from oat kernels, oatmeal has been used in skin care since ancient times as a skin soother. Oatmeal offers cleansing, soothing, protective and anti-inflammatory qualities and its the best natural anti-itch remedy out there. Moms used to put oatmeal in warm baths for kids suffering from chickenpox for this very reason. Oatmeal also contains a chemical called beta glucan that helps improve skin’s barrier function to prevent water loss and soften dry skin. It’s easy to make your own calming DIY.
The new kid in town! Feverfew stops the formation of inflammatory chemicals in the body. It is a potent anti-inflammatory, and is very effective at calming redness. If you have rosacea or if you regularly experience rash reactions, this is the one for you. Oh! And research also shows that it lessens skin irritation from shaving. Feverfew can help heal inflammation from acne, atopic dermatitis and Rosacea while reducing redness and rough texture!
Important! Pure feverfew contains a substance – parthenolide – that can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions. So, if you want to use feverfew, use only the processed form (called PFE, or parthenolide-free feverfew).
