5 Steps to Glowing Skin for Summer

I’m always obsessed with glowing skin for summer. I just love that dewy finish and I love the idea of being able to get that (to a certain degree) from skincare products because I’m not big on tanning. Then, if your natural glow isn’t enough, you can always use highlighter and bronzing creams to amp it up a bit. In order to get your glow on all year long, master these 5 simple steps!

5 STEPS TO GLOWING SKIN FOR SUMMER

Daily Facial Massage & Hydrating Cleanse

One surefire way to get glowing skin for summer is by doing a daily facial massage, specifically with cleansing oil. It may seem counter intuitive to use a hydrating cleanser during the summer, but your skin actually needs to hydration. Cleansing oils help replenish lost moisture and balance sebum production. Because natural cleansing oils often include potent plant oils and essences, they are invaluable for helping encourage cell turnover, feeding skin vital hydration, and sloughing off dead skin cells. Use upward and outward strokes to gently push the oil into your skin with your fingertips; then rinse. If you don’t like an oily residue or if you have oily skin, you can buff the oil off your skin in circular upward motions with a warm washcloth or muslin cloth. This will get rid of that “oily” feeling, but you’ll still get the benefits of oil cleansing.

Gentle Exfoliation A Few Times Per Week

Weekly exfoliation is paramount to get glowing skin because dead skin cells can make skin look dull and tired. Using a gentle scrub and/or face mask will help to slough off the dead skin, encourage cell turnover, and help prevent breakouts. If you have acne prone, dry, or oily skin, you can safely exfoliate your skin 2-3 times per week as long as the scrub you’re using is gentle. Remember not to press down on your skin; simply buff the scrub in upward circular strokes and then rinse. More sensitive skin types should limit exfoliation to no more than 1-2 times per week.

Lock In Moisture & Brighten with Face Mist As Much As Possible

You might think of summer as time when your skin has more moisture, but this is not necessarily true. If you are in the sun frequently, your skin is actually losing moisture due to exposure to all the elements. This can be due to high sun, harsh winds, and many other factors so you want to ensure you keep your skin as hydrated as possible. In order to keep my moisture levels up, I always keep a face mist with me to refresh my skin throughout the day. The older you are, the more necessary this particular tip becomes because, as we age, our skin loses it’s ability to retain moisture. This is one tip you’ll want to stay on top of year round, especially if you’re 25 years or older!

Be Religious About Antioxidant Serums

I’m religious about antioxidant-rich face serums and there’s a good reason for it! Antioxidant serums are great because they help protect your skin from free radical damage, repair existing damage, and help offer up vital nutrients to your skin along with hydration and other benefits. Free radicals can be caused by anything from pollution and poor air quality to the sun’s UV rays, poor diet, and more. These serums are ideal for use any time, but especially if you’re spending a lot of time in the sun or while traveling!

NEVER Go Without Sun Protection

You never want to skip sun protection, but you especially don’t want to skip it during the summer! The sun’s rays are at their peak and we’re typically spending a lot more time under the sun so protecting our skin is important if we want to maintain skin health (and a glow!). Find a nice, light sun cream that works well for your skin type. The Graydon Face Glow Sun Cream (linked below) is ideal for all skin types because it’s incredibly light, has NO white cast (not even if you’re tan!), and has a satin/matte finish. The formula won’t break you out and it will protect your skin from UVA/UVB rays all summer long so you can enjoy time at the pool, beach, etc. without worrying about burning or damaging your skin.
