I’ve been wanting to try Tata Harper for ages and ages, but sadly, they didn’t want to send me any samples for review. Instead, they claimed that they’re still a small brand and can’t afford to even though they’re currently stocked in Sephora. Forgive me if I’m just a little skeptical to that end. Anyway, since at the time, I believed they were a small brand (it wasn’t yet announced they’d be stocked in Sephora), I agreed to pay $5 for tiny little foil samples of a few things to be sent to me. I enjoyed trying those samples out, however small and so not worth $5 they were, so I picked up a few full sized products to get the full experience last time I stopped by Sephora. And, despite how much I really didn’t want to “promote” this brand, I do really like their products so I decided to share my thoughts anyway.

Tata Harper Review

Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence

100% natural moisture boosting toner

To start, this toner smells lovely. It’s gently floral, but it’s not overwhelming and it doesn’t smell like your grandmother’s rose perfume (thank God!) which is something I think a lot of brands get wrong. It has a lovely scent that’s relaxing and the toner, itself, is very soothing to the skin. Moreover, it claims to be a moisture boosting toner and I would agree with those claims. This worked very well underneath my face oils and balms after cleansing.

The brand also claims that this toner has bio-compatible hyaluronic acid which helps to provide moisture wherever is needed. I’ve no idea what “bio-compatible” adds to hyaluronic acid, an ingredient which will help hydrate your skin as is, but it’s probably just fancy market jargon. At any rate, this is great at hydrating your skin and I think it’s one of those rare products that would work for literally any skin type.

Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask

100% natural for instant glow

This was probably my favorite product of the ones I tried which is saying something because I enjoyed all of them quite a bit. The consistency of this resurfacing mask is a gel consistency and while you might think you need more to cover your skin, the opposite is actually true. You can get away with using a nickel to quarter size amount of product to cover your entire face and neck. You could use this one as a gentle resurfacing skin treatment, but I personally liked using this one overnight best. I applied a thin layer to my skin after cleansing and toning and then layered my face oils or balms over the top of it.

Using the mask in this way, I always woke up with clearer, softer skin that looked pretty and felt healthy so I love the effects of it. That said, using it as a mask, it worked best right before applying makeup because it really does give your skin a bit of a pick-me-up. Noted ingredients include white willow (great for healing acne), pomegranate enzymes which they say helps cell turnover and brightens skin, and also French pink clay which is a more gentle clay alternative to those who find other clay to be too drying. Even though clay is in the formula, it must be in a very low volume because this mask is more hydrating that drying, but it doesn’t break my skin out or irritate it at all. Instead, it gently hydrates and brightens it overnight.

Tata Harper Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tint in Very Sweet

100% natural tint for blush and lips in rosy pink

The last product I tried was one of their very over-priced, but nonetheless awesome, lip and cheek tints. I chose the tint Very Sweet which is a petal pink color that’s perfect for pale people like me. That said, I think pretty much anyone could wear this shade as it’s really flattering and just pretty on the skin. It’s not one of those obnoxiously pink colors that makes you look like you’re from the 80’s. Instead, the tint gives a gorgeous flush to skin that truly looks natural and I really like that aspect of it.

I normally find that lip & cheek tints, sticks, etc. usually tend to work better on lips or cheeks, but most of the time they don’t look equally flattering on both. That’s just my opinion – you might have better luck with other products – but the good thing with this particular product is that it looks great on both lips and cheeks. I prefer to wear it on my cheeks because that’s why I purchased it, but it does look lovely on both and it smells/tastes great too.

They make all kinds of claims about diminishing fine lines, smoothing out dry lips, and giving more “volume” which I think implies fuller, plumper looking lips, but really, this is just a really nice lip and cheek tint. I don’t think these claims have any real base in reality at all. The product is really nice and it’s super creamy to use so you only need a small amount. Also, it’s formulated with natural ingredients so it won’t cause premature aging like mainstream cosmetics, but do I think it will keep your lips looking young and full? No, probably not, but these are products not the fountain of youth.

Final Thoughts on Tata Harper…

Overall, I really love all of these products. I didn’t have one bad experience with any of them. That said, my interactions with the actual brand kind of left a bad taste in my mouth, but whatever, that’s their prerogative, not mine. As much as I liked these products, I’m not sure if I would repurchase. I would, most likely, repurchase the mask because I got such great results, but I’ll probably pass on the toner because I get equal if not better results from the Pacific Mist from True Nature Botanicals at a comparable price, but in my opinion, more value in the quality of ingredients. The Tata Harper toner’s first ingredient is water and that’s important to note because water is basically a filler, in my opinion, and the fact that they charge $68 for less than 2 ounces of this stuff is just ridiculous.

I’d be more inclined to pay that much if the first ingredient was an organic tea, aloe gel, a floral water blend, or something more beneficial other than water. I feel like they kind of cut corners by using water as a base. As for the face mask, it also comes in a base of water which, again, kind of taints the value of it. These products are SO expensive that I feel like there are many other brands out there who offer more bang for your buck, so to speak, and some do it for a lot less. That said, these products do work really well and I have no complaints because the performance is great, but I do think they need to up their game as far as ingredient content, less fillers and more value, especially since they charge such a ridiculous amount for each product.

Since I really feel that these products are great for giving the skin more hydration and glow (perfect for spring), I thought I would share a few easy ways you can get glowing skin without using products.

10 Easy Ways to Get Glowing Skin

1.) Drink More Water.

Staying hydrated is great for your body and skin health because it keeps cells plump and flowing with oxygen while also helping to keep things in your body in motion for things like moving toxins out more efficiently, hydrating cells and keeping them working at optimal potential, etc. In terms of your skin, water can help calm inflammation and redness, plump your skin cells, and bring valuable trace minerals to your skin as well.

2.) Eat More Fruits.

Fruits are high in vitamins, minerals and many of them have potent antioxidant content. This can help defend your skin against free radical damage from pollution, UV rays, etc. which helps to improve your skin’s health.

3.) Get Your Greens In.

Greens are high in phyto-nutrients like chlorophyll which is brilliant for calming inflammation and healing skin cells. If you deal with acne, redness, or other skin conditions, definitely eat more greens!

4.) Those Probiotics Though.

Probiotics in a supplement or even just eating more fermented foods are great for digestion and they have valuable enzymes which are great for your gut and your skin health.

5.) Get At Least 7 Hours of Sleep.

Sleep is so important for repairing the body and skin. You slough off dead skin cells, cell turnover, and you create brand new skin. This isn’t possible without sleep! Sleep helps breakouts heal, redness abate, and aids you in getting rid of dead skin.

6.) Stress Less.

Stress can wreak all kinds of havoc on the body, including your skin, so be sure you take time to wind down, relax, and do the things you enjoy.

7.) Keep Your Diet Consistent.

While doing a skin diet or detox may feel enticing, I want to issue a quick word of warning. Any time you do any kind of super restrictive diet or detox, you can throw your entire body out of whack. Unless there’s a legit reason for doing said detox or diet, I would say to stick with simply eating healthy most days and indulging here and there. That’s a lot better for the body and it won’t throw your body out of balance like hardcore dieting will.

8.) Check Your Sugar, Junk & Dairy Intake.

Sugar, processed and greasy junk food, and processed dairy foods can do bad things to your skin. A little in small amounts is not necessarily bad and I don’t really agree with demonizing sugar or any food group, but limit your intake. It’s more about the crap ingredients in store bought foods so if you want brownies, use whole food ingredients like honey or dates as a sweetener instead or organic dairy to avoid the hormones and toxins found in the regular stuff.

9.) Use Helpful Products.

Obviously, all the products in the world won’t help you if your diet sucks or you’re so stressed you’re pulling your own hair out, BUT if you are doing most of the above already, then using some helpful products will maximize those results and make your skin look even better ♥

10.) Live Fully.

Lastly, I think there’s something to be said for people who truly live fully and happily. Do what you love, take time for you, and follow your dreams. Don’t the people who do this look like they’ve got such a glow going on?
