Fun Things to Do on NYE

There are a lot of fun things to do on NYE and they are not as complicated or pricey as you might think! Whether you decide to stay at home, attend an event, throw your own party, or simply dress up and drink some champagne, these fun ideas will help you ring in the new year in style ♥

Fun Things to Do on NYE

Ring in the New Year With Some Friends & Lots of Fun ♥

Stay At Home // While it may seem counter-intuitive, staying at home can be fun if you do a bit of planning! Make sure you have things to do whether it’s board games, fun trivia, or even something as simple as planning your goals for the new year or writing down what you learned or what you’re grateful for that happened in 2015. Invite some friends over to ring in the new year with, make some delicious food, have a signature drink, and enjoy a movie marathon or one of the many TV show marathons that will be going down on TV. You can even do something as simple as ringing in the new year on TV with Ryan Seacrest in Times Square while waiting for the ball to drop.

Sweets & Sips // If you plan on staying at home and throwing a party or just relaxing with some friends, make sure you have 2 things above all else: some delicious sweets and 1-2 signature drinks to cheer with when the clock strikes 12. I think using edible glitter or using specific colors for your NYE party are great ideas to really bring your theme together and make everything more fun and enjoyable. Popular color schemes include navy and gold, navy and silver, red and gold, pink and gold, multicolored glitter and any other color, etc. Get more NYE dessert recipes here and get some delicious NYE cocktail recipes here ♥ If you don’t drink, check out my list of NYE Mocktails over on Mode 🙂

Attend An Event // You can also go out for NYE and attend any number of local events. There are so many events to choose from whether it’s at a nearby bar, special venue, or maybe even a close friend’s house. Just make sure you catch an uber home if you plan on drinking! If you want to know what events are going down near you, simply type in your city name + new year’s eve event or party.

Rock A Flashy NYE Trend // Even if you’re not doing anything crazy for NYE, it’s fun to look nice when you ring in the new year. Try a fun trend for NYE like sequins or glitter, metallics, pure gold or silver, or classic colors like red and navy. Play around with textures like lace, leather, velvet, feathers, and glitter or sequins for a totally unique look!

Throw A Party // If you want to bring the party to you, consider throwing an impromptu NYE party of your own! Invite some friends over for a marathon of your favorite TV shows or movies, create a popcorn, cocktail, dessert, or coffee bar along with some other fun snacks to enjoy so you don’t have to make a full-on meal. Ring in the new year with your friends in as fancy a way as you like. Just make sure you DIY Sparkly Champagne Bottles 😉 You can also get more DIY Party Ideas here.

Sparklers // One thing I think every NYE celebration should have are sparklers or some kind of poppers. If you prefer to avoid anything that could start a fire or have very young children, you can purchase some fun confetti poppers or even make your own. If you’re with an older crowd of only adults, sparklers are a fun, impressive way to ring in the new year. You can purchase some online or locally otherwise there’s a DIY Sparklers tutorial here which you can try at your own risk. For everyone else, stick to the harmless NYE poppers, make your own fortune cookies, or do a fun gift exchange with friends if you want alternatives to fireworks!

Some fun ideas for NYE! What have you planned? I’m looking forward to to a nice quiet one, I’m just not a fan of going out, it always seems such a let down! All that fuss. Give me a nice glass or two of prosecco and Jools Holland on the TV & I’m happy 🙂

yeah! NYE is fun 🙂 I’m pretty much staying in, watching movies, and hopefully enjoying some seafood pasta 😀 I totally agree with you! Every time I try to plan to go out, it totally ends up royally sucking lol. Pretty much. I’m thinking Harry Potter marathon or a good book, a nice drink, and good food 🙂 Hope you have an awesome NYE Aine! ♥ wishing the best for you in 2016 ♥

I love this list! I’ve personally never celebrated NYE really. I either work NYE or New Year’s Day, so I’m never in a party mood. I always stay in, relax, unwind, plan for goals for the new year and reflect on the year about to end.

yeah I can see how that would make you want to just chill. Most of the time, I find NYE to be a letdown if I plan anything crazy lol so I just stay in with good food and good friends most years 🙂 wishing you all good things in 2016!

I usually spend New Years at home and watch as the ball drops at midnight. I’ve always wanted to do a New York- style new years though! I hope I get to do that one year!

Wow!! That gold glitter cake looks amazing!! So NYE!! 😀 I plan on spending mine at home creating vision boards with a few friends while we sip wine and eat cheesecake! HA! It’s funny as I get older, I just want to be at home with those closest to me. Great post with awesome idea! Thanks!

Fun post! I love NYE so much, it’s definitely one of my favorite holidays. Someday I hope to throw a big bash myself when I have the space for it:). Hope you are doing something fun. Happy New Year Ti!!

I don’t plans yet lol I know less than 24 hours tisk tisk. There are two holidays I wait until the last minute to make plans for because I find that on nye and Halloween if you put too much pressure on them you end up let down

    1. December 31, 2015 at 8:16 AM

you know, that is SO TRUE. Maybe you have the right idea about it lol. any time I make plans, it’s always a bummer. I’m just going to relax at home this year 😀

  9. December 31, 2015 at 10:42 AM

Yep, our tradition is staying in with some take out Chinese food and having a movie marathon. 🙂 We celebrate “midnight” around 8 or 9 with our kids. 🙂

    1. December 31, 2015 at 11:35 AM

that sounds like fun and less stressful – happy new year to you and wish you all the best in 2016 ♥
