My Favorite Films to Watch During the Holidays

{That Aren’t Holiday-Related}

I know so many people love to pop in their copy of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer or The Santa Clause come this time of year and while I love those films as well, they aren’t the only films that make me feel the spirit of the holidays and season. In fact, many of the films I end up watching that remind me of this time of year are not holiday-related or themed at all.

♥ Here Are My Non-Holiday Film Favorites ♥

  1. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe. I LOVE this film! I really loved the book as a child so it’s quite sentimental for me as it was one of the first chapter books I reading growing up. The film is just one of those films that makes me feel like winter has come and there are tons of Christmas references in this film so it’s perfect without overloading me with too many “ho-ho-ho!” and “joy jolly st. nick” slogans.
  2. The Jacket. This is not holiday related in the least, but it’s an awesome film and there’s snow in it so I guess that’s winter-themed in a way? LOL. The film centers on a man who has died several times, but keeps coming back and is sent to a mental institute when he is accused of murder. At the mental institute, a controversial psychiatrist puts him in a straight jacket every day and puts him in a morgue locker as a kind of “therapy” to help him change his ways. It might sound horror-ish, but it’s really more drama sci-fi than anything else.
  3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This is one of my favorite films so any excuse to watch it is good enough for me. The film is about a couple, Joel and Clementine, who break up and  Clementine gets a procedure done in which she has all of her memories of Joel erased. He decides to get the procedure done as well, but changes his mind midway through and tries to save his memories of her. It’s an amazing film, very sci-fi and weird, but it has a great story.
  4. Lord of the Rings: Two Towers. This is a total classic for me. I loved the LOTR series growing up and this is my favorites of the trilogy so I always watch this one. There’s just something that feels like the holidays for me when I watch this film. Maybe it’s the fact that the LOTR films always seem to come out around Christmas or maybe I just really love them.
  5. Harry Potter. Harry Potter films always make me feel in the holiday mood! I am a huge fan of the books as I read them all growing up and the films are just an extension of that. For years now, I’ve re-read the entire series every year come September to December. It’s almost a tradition haha, but I also enjoy watching the films.
  6. E4 Misfits Series. These are not films, but a British TV Show I really love! I began watching this show around the fall so it’s a bit nostalgic for me to watch around this time of year. Plus, it takes place in cloudy UK so it just feels like fall/winter to me.

    Harry Potter is also one of my favorite movies to watch over the holidays! I get nostalgic whenever I watch it and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy haha. I’ve never heard of The Jacket before, but it looks good. I like to watch Christmas classics mostly; there isn’t a single Christmas season that goes by without watching Home Alone and Christmas Vacation.
