Happy Earth Day!
Earth Day is one of my favorite spring holidays because it highlights the importance of taking care of the place we live: the planet earth! I love our planet and I hope we can continue here for thousands of generations, but the truth is that we need to change the way we are living now by minimizing our carbon footprint, decreasing waste, and increasing the amount of biodegradable things we create vs. the kind of items which take centuries to break back down into the earth again. Since Earth Day is all about sustainability and going green, I thought I would share some fun picks I found on etsy which are all eco-friendly! Also, be sure to check below for some more tips on how you can be more green in your everyday life.
Earth Day Picks from Etsy
Eco Friendly Sea Glass Turtle Charm | This little charm is made with eco-friendly sea glass and is handmade by a local artisan in Massachusetts.
Dreamcatcher made with recycled materials | Made with recycled materials, this gorgeous boho dreamcatcher is the perfect gift for you and someone you love who wants to keep bad dreams at bay (or just a cute and unique decor item!).
Hummingbird Zipper Coin Pouch | I love the gorgeous design of this hummingbird pouch. You can use it as a cosmetic bag, holder for hair ties and bobby pins, or even for pens and pencils on the go. The quilt batting in this is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles – amazing right?!
Hanging Coral Garden Air Plant | Plants are a great way to go green, decorate your home, and also clean the air in your space. They require very little maintenance, but give back a lot in terms of your air quality.
Polka Dot Eco Wooden Spoons | Eco-friendly wooded spoons are super cute, but don’t have the waste that plastic ones do. These are also super cute and unique; perfect for your spring garden party, am I right?
Good Morning, Beautiful Spoon | These spoons might not seem eco-friendly, but they’re simply up-cycled from old spoons and made new with cute hand stamped messages!
Earth Friendly Handmade Soy Crayons | These adorable soy crayons are handmade in a number of different colors and shapes. They’re made from 100% natural and biodegradable materials like soy wax, natural pigments and they’re non-toxic.
Cucumber, Sage and Lavender Candle | These candles are made with 100% soy wax and cotton fabric wicks and the scent blends are handmade and hand poured.
Herb Seed Bombs | If you’re planning on starting an herb garden, this takes out all the guesswork! Simply plant them in some soil, water and go! Each seed bomb is a different herb and this pack comes with cilantro, basil, parsley and chives.
3 Tips to Live Greener
- Green Your Beauty Routine. Whether you go natural and organic, all eco-friendly, vegan and cruelty-free, or all the above, going green with your beauty routine will help improve your skin and the earth in many ways. You will look younger and the earth will be filled with more eco-friendly ingredients and less toxic chemicals (because you won’t be buying them anymore!). Another great benefit is that green beauty products often come in glass containers so when you use them up, you can reuse them for something else!
- Make Your Life More Sustainable. You can do this in a number of ways. One way is to buy more eco-friendly fashion from ethical fashion retailers who use organic, sustainable, and earth-friendly materials and manufacturing processes. Another way is to purchase used clothing from consignment or thrift stores to help prevent further waste. Get rid of all the plastic in your home and switch to glass and ceramics to help cut down on your own personal level of waste and minimize your carbon footprint. Using glass water bottles, tupper wares, using fabric shopping bags, and buying locally can all help this as well.
- Plant More Seeds, Conserve, and Reuse. Planting more seeds for food, flowers, and trees helps increase the oxygen in the atmosphere which will help every living thing in your vicinity. It also helps bring more oxygen to your direct environment which is good for you too! Planting your own seeds helps cut down on waste, especially if you’re growing your own food, because you won’t be purchasing food with plastic bags or containers and your food is more biodegradable because it’s from the earth and not processed. Conserve your use of water by turning things off after you’re done using them, not leaving the water running while doing dishes or brushing your teeth, and reuse the plastic containers and glass containers you already own.
