Dia de Los Muertos Red Sugar Skull Makeup
Today’s post is a second sugar skull makeup look that I created upon request from a follower on Instagram and I thought I would also share the look here because I think it came out really nice!
What I Used:
The first thing you should know is that I only used 3 products: MAC Pro Acrylic Paints in White, Black and Red. They only sell these on Ebay as far as I can tell, but you can get the Make Up Forever Aquarelles in tons of colors, including these three, for nearly half the price. I discovered them after the fact or I would’ve purchased those instead as they are quite a bit cheaper ( MAC are $42 each on Ebay and MUF Aquarelle are only $21 each ).
The first thing I did was put down the lines for my eyes. I used an angled brush to line around my eyes where I wanted black to go. Then I painted the rest of my face in white using a foundation brush (the tapered one from the Core Collection by Real Techniques). After that, I went back in with the angled brush and filled in my eye sockets, did my nose, and also the stitches on my mouse.
I then took a small flat round brush ( the small one from the Core Collection Set by Real Techniques) and created the red flower petals around my eyes as well as the bloody on my lips and the dots around my eyes. I added in the black dots and that’s it!
Tips + Tricks
I kept this look super simple because I wanted it to be all about the eyes and I wanted the look to be simple enough for you guys to recreate, if you wanted to. I see a lot of sugar skull makeup looks around the internet and while some of them look amazing, a lot of them are so far out of the realm of recreation.
They are just too detailed to recreate exactly or require a lot more makeup artistry skill than what I possess so that’s why I try to keep things simple with my looks. I definitely want the looks to be accessible to even the most inept makeup artists and everyday people so I hope you give it a go and let me know what you think!
