Colostrum Skincare Benefits: WTF Is Colostrum + How It Can Help Your Skin

colostrum skincare benefits - TheCream

I recently attended the Natural Products Expo at Expo West where I discovered so many incredible natural brands, one of which was theCream. I knew from the moment I heard their wonderful founder’s story that theCream was something special. This brilliant natural skincare brand utilizes the natural healing powers of colostrum as the hero ingredient in their skincare products and you will want the scoop on them because they seriously work!

My First Impressions of theCream Skincare

I’ve been trialing theCream skincare products for about 2 weeks now and I’m seriously IMPRESSED! I’ve been trying out a number of their products and have not had one bad experience. In fact, my skin has literally never looked better. Their creamy facial cleanser is perfect for soothing and hydrating skin at the end of a long and tiring day. It doesn’t leave a residue like some cleansing oils or balms, though, which is a nice change from my usual and it’s still great at removing makeup which is brilliant. Other products I’m currently trialing include their award-winning (2015) theCream Face Cream, Concentrated Recharge Facial Serum, Concentrated Repair Cream, and their awesome Anti-Aging Skin Conditioning Body Cream. All of these are seriously awesome and I think they’re even making some serious headway on my acne scars.

WTF Is Colostrum?

Colostrum is produced by all female mammals for 72 hours following the birth of their offspring and it’s seriously powerful as it actually jump starts every process in a baby’s body.

I was lucky enough to get this story from the TheCream founder, Denie, so just imagine this in a New Zealand accent because it feels all the more magical that way!

So, what is colostrum? Well, if you’re not a mom, you probably have no idea, but colostrum is the first thing the comes out of a mother’s breast right after their baby is born. It’s not to be confused with breast milk, either, because colostrum is an entirely different substance. Colostrum is produced by all female mammals for 72 hours following the birth of their offspring and it’s seriously powerful as it actually jump starts every process in a baby’s body. It kick starts your immune system and all other bodily processes. In fact, it’s so potent that it’s largely recognized as nature’s most powerful nutrient for enlivening your skin and body cells.

Why Colostrum?

So, now that you what colostrum is (or maybe you’re a brilliant mom and knew already!), let’s talk about why colostrum is so beneficial in skincare. First off, it’s highly bio-available to your body and therefore your skin. This means that your skin will easily and happily absorb it without a fuss which is great news because you’re much more likely to get the maximum amount of benefits from products which your body can easily absorb. Secondly, colostrum is a potent ingredient for any kind of skin healing and this includes hydration, healing of fine lines and sun damage as well as acne breakouts, and soothing any skin irritations or imbalances. Colostrum is highly nutrient dense and as such is packed with protein, vitamins, and minerals your skin can massively benefit from.

Sustainable & Ethically Made Colostrum Skincare : theCream ♥

Founded by Denie Hiestand, a natural health expert and former New Zealand dairy farmer, theCream was created to fulfill a need for safer skincare products that helped the body’s processes instead of hindering them.

At the request of his patients (namely cancer patients), Denie set out to create a line of products that not only didn’t include any of the harmful chemicals found in conventional products, but instead contained a potent life-giving nutrient among other cell-nourishing ingredients to help the skin function at it’s absolute best.

theCream gets it’s colostrum from natural grass-fed cows as colostrum from cows is 200x more powerful than human colostrum. Ethically sourced from New Zealand, the colostrum taken from these lovely grass-fed mama cows is ONLY the surplus leftovers which is then processed for human use. The colostrum is dried using a very low temperature drying process to preserve it’s efficacy and adheres to the most stringent, ethical processes in New Zealand.

Colostrum Skincare Benefits

theCream crafts their simple, yet effective line of colostrum skincare products using 100% natural ingredients.

They don’t use any heavy metals, mineral oils, petrochemicals, alcohols, parabens, preservatives or fillers. All of their skincare formulas are made without water to preserve the potency and efficiency of ingredients and are clinically tested and EU cosmetic safety approved. To avoid the use of preservatives, airless vacuum packaging is used so that the ingredients maintain their potency and purity and are not exposed to bacteria growth.

Interesting, though I have to admit when I first saw it was made with colostrum part of me went “eww” haha
I love the word play with the cow theme as well 🙂
Sounds like an interesting skin care brand anyway

Haha I know! It’s not at ALL what you think, though. Everything smells (like vanilla and orange blossom) and works really well, despite the unique ingredients. Definitely worth a try if you need hydration, balance, and want more soothing ingredients in your skincare.

haha! Yeah, I knew I wouldn’t be alone in that. It’s a strange ingredient, but surprisingly awesome. The line smells amazing, too, like orange blossom and citrus and then some that smell like vanilla. It’s all very pretty and very effective. Definitely worth a try if you want a more calming, hydrating skincare line. I was surprised how well I’ve fared given I have more combination/acne prone skin, but this has done brilliant things for my skin. thanks for sharing your thoughts Angie !

this will definitely help you out! It’s so gentle and soothing as well as hydrating, but it’s not heavy on the skin. I really love that aspect of this line.

it’s a really wonderful brand. it’s been great for skin hydration and soothing redness, especially! 🙂 hope you like it ♥

It surprises me that there is such a product but seeing that to heal your nipple or any irritation in the baby you use your milk or colostrum before it becomes milk, I guess it shouldn’t come as a surprise. Thanks for the insight
