5 Easy Ways to Build Your Instagram Following that Actually Work!

It’s been a great while since I shared anything related to blogging so I thought I would share some helpful tips to build your instagram following as I’ve read a LOT on this topic and discovered that much of it is crap, but some of it actually does work. So, yeah, here’s what works so you can stop wasting your time on the things that don’t.

5 Ways to Build Your Instagram Following

(Tips that Actually Work!)

Tip #1: Post Consistently.

This is one thing I really struggled with on instagram, in the beginning, and that was to post consistently. Most likely, people will not remember to visit your page if it doesn’t pop up in their feed often enough. More than that, you want to develop a schedule of content that they can expect and that’s reliable. Even if you post once a month or once a week, be consistent with what day and/or time you post, at least, the majority of the time. I saw a lot more growth in my instagram once I began to post more consistent content.

Tip #2: Use Relevant Hashtags.

In the beginning, I made up a LOT of the hashtags that I used or I used simple ones like #beauty which isn’t necessarily bad, but could be better. If you put a small amount of effort into keyword research, then you will find the best keywords to use for your particular niche. If you’re not too familiar with keyword or hashtag research, then I recommend simply googling “top instagram hashtags for (insert your niche here)” and see what comes up. Lots of bloggers have done posts on this top and list a TON of hashtags that are great to use. There are also group hashtags which many people follow for specific kinds of posts and topics. For instance, #DarlingDaily is a hashtag for all things beauty related. #SoLoverly is for all things wedding related and #ABMSummer is all about summer related lifestyle posts.

If keyword and hashtag research doesn’t help you, then another great way to find out some good ones to use is to check out the top instagram pages in your niche. What hashtags are they instagrammers using? I’m not saying to copy them 100% because I find that’s more annoying than effective, but take what they do and learn from it!

Tip #3: Do Occasional Giveaways, Especially Collaborative Ones.

Giving back to your followers is a great way to create a loyal following and gain new ones, especially if you’re doing a collaborative giveaway with other instagrammers. This gets your profile in front of new eyes and helps build up your numbers, but it’s your job to ensure that those new followers stay instead of leaving after the giveaway is done so make sure your profile is on point! The other thing to note is that you don’t have to do loop giveaways if this doesn’t appeal to you. You can connect with other instagrammers within your niche to do a group giveaway in a way that’s more relevant for your audience. You can also do a giveaway on your own, but depending on your following, the results won’t be as good unless you’re collaborating with a brand or some other instagrammers.

Tip #4: Be Visually Appealing and Extremely Useful.

Of course, your instagram channel will never grow if the content isn’t good! Think about your niche and what your audience is interested in seeing and learning more about. Do they need help with beauty, fashion, etc.? Then, perhaps you want to share makeup tips, skincare favorites, or outfits and style advice. Sit down and decide what you’re going to offer to your followers and how you can help them out.

As you may know, I’m not a professional photographer, but I have worked hard to level up my photos (which started out really awful, if I’m being honest) because I know visually appealing images perform better. If you’re not a professional photographer, that’s okay. You can look up photography tips and advice online and apply them to what you have whether you’re using a pro level camera or your cell phone.

Tip #5: Join A Comment Pod & Engage With Others.

A recent discovery of mine has been comment pods. These are basically instagram groups that you join where you engage with a number of other instagrammers each day, commenting and liking their photos, to help each other build your following and engagement on instagram. It’s brilliant and has helped my engagement so much! I really love it and I love connecting with other influencers. It’s wonderful to connect with new people, for both big and small instagrammers to network and build each other up. Lastly, I want you guys to remember that it’s important to ENGAGE WITH OTHERS. This goes for any social media platform. Social media is called “social” for a reason! Get on your favorite platforms and connect with others. Talk to them, comment on their posts, seek out friends, and enjoy it! It’s quite fun when you stop obsessing so much over numbers. Those will come in time.

I hope you guys found this post helpful! If you want any more tips for instagram or other social media platforms, blogging tips, or other influencer related topics, please let me know in the comments below!

Its awesome to learn new ways to leverage an existing free resource. Instagram is great for visual marketing. With the Algorithm change to curated feed, its clear we have to do more to reach our target audiences and followers. So posting often is a great idea.

Thanks for sharing at the Pit Stop

definitely! the algorithm change was kind of a bust, but these tips should help account for that 🙂 thanks for stopping by Julie!

Some very useful tips. I have a hard time with consistency even on my blogs and I’m constantly striving to improve that. I’d love to know more about how to do a giveaway on Instagram. I’ve done them on my blogs but they look confusing to me on Instagram.

that’s good Ava! It takes time to work up to being consistent online. It helps if you keep a blog schedule or planner. Instagram is not as hard as it seems. you simply need to form a loop (not as hard as it sounds) . feel free to email me and I can explain!

I feel like not posting consistently and using the right hashtags can be the reasons why my Instagram following is not growing. I also need to clean up my feed to make it look more cohesive.
