Books I Read Recently + What Made My To-Read List! ♥

I’ve been taking in initiative to read more books this year and finish a book each month, if I can. I’ve done pretty okay at it so I thought it would be fun to share some of the books I’ve read recently as they’re all really great books as well as share what’s made my “to read” list for this month ♥

Books I Read Recently:

The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan and Maureen Johnson : I previously loved the Mortal Instruments series, but I had gotten really tired of it and later on decided that I liked the Infernal Devices prequel to the series a whole lot better. That being said, after reading all of the books, I was pretty burnt out on them. So much so that, when my boyfriend got me this book for Christmas, I avoided reading it, thinking I probably wasn’t going to like it. I couldn’t have been more wrong!! I LOVED this book so much! If you read TMI of ID series and you love the Magnus Bane character, you will love this book. I was laughing out loud reading it and it wholeheartedly revitalized the series for me and made me want to go back and read them over. This just goes to show that Magnus is the best character ever. If you haven’t read The Mortal Instruments or Infernal Devices series yet, I highly recommend them all and definitely this one! You definitely need to read the entire series to get all of the little tidbits and side stories in this book, but I think anyone could enjoy this because he’s such a lovable character. Just keep in mind, you might not get all the references if you haven’t read the previous books.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn : Gone Girl was a book that I technically started reading end of last year, but I finished it after the new year and it definitely deserves another mention here anyway! It was the best book (and film!) that I saw/read in 2014. Hands down. It was such a great story that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I loved getting inside the heads of these twisted characters and it was crazy how I related to them in spite of their insanity. I don’t want to give too much away, but the story is about Nick Dunne and his wife Amy who goes missing one day.

Lose, Rosie by Cecelia Ahern : If you like romance or romantic comedies, you will enjoy this book! The author also wrote P.S. I Love You so that’s a good reference for this, though the films really cannot be compared as they’re quite different from the book versions. Love, Rosie follows Rosie and her best friend, Alex, who seem to be destined to be together, but can never get it together to actually be together. It was such a fun read that ended up being a much deeper story than I thought it would be. It literally follows their lives for years and years through all the struggles we go through in real life. I just loved every minute of it, especially the letters and emails and all the funny banter between Rosie and her good friend Ruby!

My To-Read List:

Bloodspell by Amalie Howard : I’m not sure exactly what this will be about, but something about witchcraft and the main character finding out she’s a witch. I am all about witches lately LOL so will definitely read this!

The Poison Eaters and Other Stories by Holly Black : Another one I’m not sure what it’s about, but it’s Holly Black who writes about fairies in such a way that I can’t look away. I love her books, all of them, and this collection of creepy short stories about vampires, werewolves, etc. is sure to be awesome!

The Coldest Girl in Cold Town by Holly Black : Tana lives in a place where Coldtowns exist, where humans and monsters coexist in a scary game of predator and prey. Once you go to Coldtown, you can never leave…or something. Sounds awesome, right? That’s what I thought!

The Lies My Teacher Told Me by James Loewen : This is the only non-fiction book to make my list and it’s about how American schools tell all kinds of lies about history. As a huge fan of history, I love a witty dialogue on how my teachers messed up my mind with lies about history. Anyone read this?

The Girl At Midnight by Melissa Grey : I’m not sure how to describe the plot of this so just read the synopsis here!

the film was really cute, but honestly nothing much like the book! The book was a whole lot better and more personal to their lives, in my opinion. Hope you find some good reads from this Orly ♥

it’s seriously awesome! I recommend finishing the MI series just to get to Infernal Devices. Then once you finish those, THEN read Bane Chronicles otherwise spoilers. Also, Infernal Devices is WAYYY better than MI in my opinion 😀 let me know how you like it if you read it!
