The Best TV Show Couples that Made Me Believe in Love...

The Best TV Show Couples that Made Me Believe in Love…

WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD! Turn Back Now If You Haven’t Seen the Following Shows and don’t want them spoiled for you: The Vampire Diaries, Heroes, The Magicians, Shadow Hunters, Lost Girl and X-Files…

Because it’s the month of love and all that, I thought I would share my favorite TV couples. The BEST TV show couples, in my opinion, are ones that made me believe in true love. Even if it’s for just a second. Now, it’s not that I don’t believe in love, but when it comes to TV shows, the love stories tend to be, for lack of a better word, horrible. They’re normally cheesy, perfunctory, unrealistic, and downright dumb. In my opinion, the best TV show couples are ones that are complicated, messy, flawed, and unlikely. It’s a lot more like real life. So, with that, these are my personal favorite TV couples!

Damon and Elena - The Best TV Show Couples that Made Me Believe in Love...

Damon and Elena – The Vampire Diaries

Where to Watch: Netflix

I was shipping this couple so hard in season 1. I literally hated Stefan and Elena as a couple. Call me a sadist, but I just can’t get behind any couple who has it that easy being together. I find it annoying and unrealistic. Whenever there are little to no obstacles for a couple, I just feel like it’s a fake relationship. Not only that, but Stefan never challenged Elena in the way that Damon does and I think that’s important in a relationship.

Charlie and Hiro - The Best TV Show Couples that Made Me Believe in Love...

Charlie and Hiro – Heroes

Where to Watch: Hulu

I die a little each time I watch the episodes with Charlie and Hiro in Heroes. It’s such a beautiful and tragic love story. I love how different they are to one another, but they still find common ground and love. I love that this relationship crosses cultures, countries, and nationalities. It’s just a beautiful story of the purity of love and friendship.

Chidi and Eleanor - The Best TV Show Couples that Made Me Believe in Love...

Chidi and Eleanor – The Good Place

Where to Watch: Hulu

The Good Place is a recent discovery of mine! This show is not only hilarious, but it’s full insights about human growth and our capacity for change. I think Eleanor and Chidi are a great example of opposites attract and liking someone in spite of yourself. Also, it’s a great narrative about how the people you surround yourself with can make you a better (or worse) person.

Quentin and Alice from The Magicians - The Best TV Show Couples that Made Me Believe in Love...

Alice and Quentin – The Magicians

Where to Watch: Netflix (season 1 only)

I love the awkward charm of Alice and Quentin from The Magicians. Having read the book series before watching the show, I can safely ascertain that they were just as awkward on the page. Personally, I just really love how flawed their relationship is. They have issues that bleed into their relationship. As a couple, they are forced to deal with each person’s baggage and insecurities. Just like real life! They’re one of the most accurate couple portrayals on TV, in my opinion.

Magnus and Alec from Shadow Hunters - The Best TV Show Couples that Made Me Believe in Love...

Magnus and Alec – Shadow Hunters

Where to Watch: Hulu

Let me preface this by saying that literally everything about this show sucks. The only reason I keep watching is for the Alec/Magnus Bane love story which is ON POINT! They’re the best part of the show IMO. That said, season 1 was god awful, but season 2 has slightly improved so there’s that. I love the chemistry and witty banter between these two characters. It happens in such an organic way that you end up really rooting for them just like in the book series.

Kady and Penny from The Magicians - The Best TV Show Couples that Made Me Believe in Love...

Kady and Penny – The Magicians

Where to Watch: Netflix (season 1 only)

As much as I love Quentin and Alice, I’m pretty sure I love Kady and Penny’s love story more! It’s funny because Kady doesn’t really exist in the books and Penny definitely doesn’t have a love story, but something about this show-only plot line totally works. The actors have great chemistry and they’re so interesting to watch! I’m rooting for them. I love that they, again, both have lots of baggage and hang ups. They’re dealing with real life issues and a lot is at stake. They’re also both super jaded and manage to fall in love almost in spite of themselves.

Claire and Phil from Modern Family - The Best TV Show Couples that Made Me Believe in Love...

Phil and Claire – Modern Family

Where to Watch: Hulu

Anyone who has seen Modern Family knows about the hilarious dynamics of the couples on this show. Specifically, Phil and Claire. It’s just how I imagine my parents would be if they were on TV. Except Phil is clearly cooler than my dad, but anyway. Their hilarious banter is so easy to relate to. Claire, the overbearing over protective mom. Phil, the fun-loving and carefree dad who still acts like a 10 year old. It’s good stuff. I love that they still love each other after raising 3 kids. It’s great writing.

Kenzie and Hale from Lost Girl - The Best TV Show Couples that Made Me Believe in Love...

Hale and Kenzie – Lost Girl

Where to Watch: Netflix

Kenzie and Hale were a couple I was shipping for AGES. Like, since season 1, ya’ll! They form an unlikely friendship and it’s so great to see them fall in love. If you watched Lost Girl, then you’ll know that it was way more romantic than any of the love triangles Bo found herself in (who even cares about Bo?). Kenzie is my spirit animal and Hale is her soul mate. Sheesh.

Mulder and Scully from X-Files - The Best TV Show Couples that Made Me Believe in Love...

Mulder and Scully – X-Files

Where to Watch: Netflix

If you’re not shipping Mulder and Scully, then you probably live under a rock (or you’ve not seen X-Files and if so, WHAT?!). Mulder, a quirky FBI agent who people refer to as “spooky Mulder” for his tinfoil hat theories gets paired up with scientist and doctor, Dana Scully. They’re the most unlikely pair, but watch seasons 1-5 and tell me you don’t think they belong together! I love that they are such opposites and they argue all the time. They’re such a fantastic pair. Please just go watch the show.

Enzo and Bonnie from The Vampire Diaries - The Best TV Show Couples that Made Me Believe in Love...

Bonnie and Enzo – The Vampire Diaries

Where to Watch: Netflix

Bonnie has been taken through the literal ringer in The Vampire Diaries. She has such a tragic story and now she’s finally found love and kinship with Enzo. It’s the cutest thing ever and it’s so nice to see she’s found someone. It seems like she’s always helping everyone else or sacrificing her happiness for others. It’s great to see her find her own soul mate, for once.

Mitch and Cam from Modern Family - The Best TV Show Couples that Made Me Believe in Love...

Mitch and Cam – Modern Family

Where to Watch: Netflix

Last, but certainly not least is Mitch and Cam from Modern Family. Not only are they hilarious, but they’re the cutest couple ever! They do adorably sweet things for one another plus I love how they’re always trying to hide little things from one another because they don’t want to prove the other person right. It gets them into some hilarious situations. And at the end of the day, they truly love one another and I love that about Modern Family couples, in general.

Oh, I heart Damon & Elena so much! I hope they get a happy ending in the finale! And of course, Bonnie’s happiness was short lived. I was so sad after last week’s episode. She always gets screwed over! 🙁 I love all the other couples you mentioned too (except for the Good Place – never saw it). I also love Barry & Iris on the Flash and Maggie & Alex on Supergirl! I have many more..just can’t think of them all – I watch way too many shows! lol

Such an easy show to binge watch on Hulu 😉 I still need to watch all the Marvel superhero shows. There are way too many good shows on lately haha. I’m super behind on the series but I totally ship Damon/Elena as well! + I totally forgot about Charlie/Hiro–they had such a cute story!!

YES! You gotta catch up! lol . It’s one of those TV series I initially hated, but got sucked into. Charlie/Hiro gave me so many feels! Especially because I read the book they released sharing more of their story. It kills me every time! I was way too obsessed with Heroes.

I always get a boost if I watch Modern Family! They are so cute and they really fight for each other, compromising aand making the best of things. Love it!

I’m obviously super out of touch because I don’t watch any of these shows except X-Files (because it’s 90s). Angel and Cordelia was my favorite love-of-a-lifetime-that-never-actually-happened. I prefer the dysfunctional relationships to the happy, healthy ones. Thanks for linking up to #fridayfrivolity this week! Xx

haha I love X-Files, but definitely check these out too! 😛 There are tons of dysfunctional ones in the mix here 😛 thanks for visitn Amethyst!

Many of these couples I am not familiar with, but I enjoyed reading your thoughts about them and it makes me consider checking them out. I love that you included two couples from Modern Family – it’s a fave of mine. Thanks so much for linking up with Fabulous Friday.

What a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s way! Since I am a child of the 90s I think my favorite would be Scully and Mulder!
