Best Face Primers for Acne Prone Skin

If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you might know about my love/hate relationship with face primers. I can’t tell you how many primers have made my skin scream in pain. If you’ve ever experienced an angry breakout thanks to pore-clogging primers, then you know exactly what I mean. For years, I struggled to find a good face primer. Now, thanks to years of trial and error, I’ve actually found some that work. This is a simple list of the best face primers for acne prone skin. These are also suitable for reactive, sensitive and normal skin types, too. Those of us with troubled skin will be able to use these without worry – FINALLY.

Jane Iredale Smooth Affair Eye Primers

The Smooth Affair Eye Primers from Jane Iredale are a new addition to my collection. They function as both cream eye shadows, eye primers, and are available in a number of colors. You can get flesh tones, gold, pink, and even a shimmery bronze. They’re super easy to customize. They go on super smooth, don’t give me milia, and help my eye shadows last hours longer than without one!

My oily eyelids will rub eye shadows off within 1-2 hours (one hour on a super hot day). Using these has helped my eye makeup last much longer. I’m not a huge fan of the gold or pink colors, but I love Naked and Canvas. Iced Brown is great as a base for smoky eye makeup looks.

Jane Iredale Smooth Affair Face Primers

The Jane Iredale Smooth Affair Face Primers were the first 100% natural face primers I ever used that didn’t break my skin out. I discovered the Smooth Affair Primer and Brightener many years ago after they discontinued the only primer that ever worked for me. Thankfully, the Smooth Affair Primers are the dope at priming!

Chock full of organic plant ingredients like brightening apple, grapefruit, and white tea, hydrating aloe juice, and other organic plant oils and essences. These primers are amazing for skin healing and rejuvenation.

What I love about these primers is how smooth they apply. At the same time, they’re very light on the skin, don’t clog my pores, give makeup a wonderful finish, and smell like delicious grapefruit! They’re definitely my personal favorite from this list (Graydon is second – scroll down for my thoughts on Graydon!)

Studio78 We Take Some Fresh Air Luminous Face Primer

This Studio78 Face Primer is a wonderful face primer if you’re looking for a more luminous makeup look. It primes skin for makeup, smells really nice, and gives a luminous finish. It’s great if you want something that will give your makeup a more dewy/glowing look without looking like a beacon of shiny light.

The formula is a light cream that includes golden mica (for a subtle glow under your foundation that creates that “lit from within” angel look), naturally toning organic clary sage, and soothing organic chamomile. It also includes organic sunflower and sweet almond oil to hydrate, smooth, and heal skin while you wear it. I use this primer during the cooler months when I want a fresh-faced makeup finish and it works like a charm.

Graydon Face Glow Sun Cream + Primer

The Graydon Face Glow Sun Cream + Primer is amazing for a number of reasons. For one, it’s brilliant at setting to a satin-matte finish which makes it perfect for oily to combination skin types. For another, it’s formula is filled with potent plant oils and extracts to keep skin calm, hydrated, and happy during use.

It’s one of the most balancing creams I’ve ever used. It’s perfect for hot summer days and if that’s not enough, it combines natural sun protection (with non-nano zinc oxide) with a light glowing tint that’s perfect for adding a bit more color to your skin. Alternatively, it’s also a brilliant sun cream if you happen to have a darker complexion because it has NO white cast (like AT ALL).
