7 Surprising Factors that Affect Your Beauty Goals

7 Surprising Factors that Affect Your Beauty Goals

There are many factors that affect your beauty goals both positively and negatively. Today, we’re focusing on all of the factors that may negatively affect your goals. I’ll also put links in this post to help you out if you’re looking for ways to positively impact your skin as well!

Factor #1: You are addicted to sugar and processed junk.

Too much processed sugar (like high fructose corn syrup and the like), fried foods, and other junk can mess with your skin in many ways. Consuming too much sugar can throw your hormones out of balance, cause mood swings, and give you acne (the sugar doesn’t, but upset hormones do). Indulging in too many fried foods and junk that has no nutritional value can cause the oils in skin to go out of balance, make you feel like crap, and age skin. In fact, don’t get me started about how many things are aging your skin; hint: your computer is one of them. Ugh.

How to Help: Cut down on your sugar/junk consumption, obviously. Try indulging in these foods instead!

Factor #2: Sleep is not a priority.

If getting a solid 7-9 hours of sleep is not a priority, you can pretty much expect that your goals won’t be as successful as you want them to be. That’s not to say you won’t be successful at all, but you may find that you’re not seeing as much progress as you would like in certain areas. This could mean your skin is not as clear as you would like or you’re not losing weight (or gaining muscle) as fast. Sleep affects every area of life. It’s important to get your Zzz’s in, my dears!

How to Help: SLEEP! Rest can do wonders for your goals and it’s free. Also, once that sleep is gone it’s gone for good. So, get your sleep in while you still can!

Factor #3: You are dialed to 11 all the time.

Constantly stressing yourself out has serious consequences for not only your health and mental state, but also for your skin. Stress can cause acne and aging which are 2 massive skin issues we all want to avoid, right? If you want to have healthy, happy skin, it’s important to take time out to relax. You should also take time to find better ways to cope and limit your stress whenever possible.

How to Help: Find healthy ways to relieve your stress whether that’s reading a good book, watching a movie or your favorite show, exercising, journaling, etc.

Factor #4: You’re not washing your face properly after workouts.

Everyone knows that fitness is a great way to amp up your daily glow and improve your health. You may not know that if you don’t cleanse your face properly, you can seriously mess your skin up. This is because exercising causes us to sweat and release dead skin cells. If we are not cleansing our face and body properly after a workout, we’re letting that dirt, debris, and dead skin sit on our skin for longer than intended. This can cause serious breakouts and can even age skin prematurely.

How to Help: Make sure you’re cleansing your body and face properly! Shower ASAP once you finish a workout to avoid body acne and double cleanse your skin after the gym with a nice cleansing balm or cleansing oil. This will ensure you get a deep cleanse without stripping your skin of valuable oils.

Factor #5: You’re putting your body through too much shock.

A surprising factor in your beauty aspirations is body shock. You can shock your body in a number of ways including crash dieting, not getting enough nutrients, working out too much, not getting enough sleep, stressing out, etc. All of these things will massively upset your skin. Even changing your skincare products too often can mess your skin up.

How to Help: Avoid changing things too abruptly or engaging in harmful lifestyles. Crash dieting and over-exercising can mess with all functions of your body, including your skin. They can even age your skin and cause acne by upsetting hormone balance or depriving you of much-needed nutrients. Try gently easing yourself into new routines, practice self-love and healing fitness and healthy eating plans. These are designed to keep your body happy and balanced.

Factor #6: Spending too much time on the computer.

It may surprise you to find out that spending too much time on the computer may be aging your skin. This is due to the light emanating from your phone, tablet, and computer which science has found might be aging your skin over time. Moreover, being on social media too long has shown to increase stress AND putting a dirty phone to your cheek will surely break you out.

How to Help: Clean your electronics, limit the time you spend tapped in, and make sure you’re using antioxidant serums as they protect your skin from UV damage!

Factor #7: Drinking and/or Smoking.

I’m sure I don’t need to say this because you are an intelligent human being, but I’ll say it anyway: drinking and/or smoking screws your skin up. Drinking too much can age your skin. I don’t care what the articles say about your rosé habit; it’s not really that good for you. One glass here and there won’t have a huge detriment, but downing a bottle every night or weekend can have serious beauty drawbacks.

How to Help: The easiest answer is to not drink or smoke. If that’s not possible, then try to limit your drinking and smoking as much as possible. Drinking once a week probably won’t affect you too much, but smoking is really detrimental to your health and beauty efforts.

Bonus: Doing any of these things.

I wrote about all the things you do that are giving you acne before and it’s still relevant in this post so I thought I would share again. These things include not washing your sheets enough, not cleaning your cell phone, and much more so do give that a read. They will help clear your acne and ensure your skin is as healthy as it can possibly be!
