AHS Freakshow Halloween Makeup Looks
I’m super excited to share these 2 Halloween makeup looks with you guys today as they are inspired by AHS Freakshow! One of my absolute FAVORITE shows is definitely American Horror Story. This season’s theme is “Freakshow” and they’ve come out with some incredible posters for the show which is where I got my inspiration from.
I haven’t done any of the scarier looks as, frankly, I don’t think I’m skilled enough to pull them off, but if you want to see some of the scarier makeup looks in a tutorial, there are a TON on YouTube. My personal favorite is by MadeYewLook. She’s amazing and super talented. She’s also really funny and loves Halloween so definitely check out her videos.
Get the Look:
It’s not exactly like the post as I haven’t applied any false lashes and I did a minimalist costume look as I mainly wanted to focus on the makeup. I definitely think you could play this up or down, however you like.
It’s such a cool take on mime makeup also known as the “sad clown” that you could be as creative as you like with it and really make it your own. I used only 3 products to get this look! OCC Lip Tar in Memento mixed with a little bit of MAC Pro Acrylic Paint in White to go my nose, lips, and the color over my eye.
I used the MAC Pro Acrylic Paint in White all over my face to get that mime look and I did my brows, eyes, teardrop, and painted on smile with MAC Pro Acrylic Paint in Black. As I said in previous posts, you can only get these MAC paints on Ebay (that I know of) as they were part of a limited edition collab. with Rick Baker.
You can use the MUF Aquarelle Paint Pots instead, if you like. They come in an incredible amount of colors and they are nearly half price to the MAC ones.
They also offer this amazing 12 Color Flash Case palette which is a great value buy and has a good amount of colors as well, though they are cream ones instead of more watery paint consistency.
Halloween Costume Ideas:
- Clown Costume
- Striped Shirt and Leggings (mime look)
- Frilly Top and Leggings/Skirt/Shorts; If you wear shorts or a skirt, I recommend pairing them with tights as it looks a bit more “circus.”
- Unitard/Leotard in Black, Red, White or Purple.
This next look was also pretty simple to create, though instead of using MAC Pro Acrylic white paint all over my face, I simply mixed a bit of the white pigment into my Hourglass Veil Fluid Foundation in Porcelain so that my face would look a shade or 2 paler than normal which, I think, creates a sense of creepiness because it just looks off.
It kind of made me look sick or dead which I think really ups the creep factor in this look a LOT. I also used a little bit of my Hourglass Corrective Concealer Stick to conceal spots on my face. I then imitated the eye makeup from the poster using the black acrylic paint by MAC, but instead of using actual stick-on gems or rhinestones (like they did).
I just painted the dots onto my face directly. I like how creative this look is as the eyes are meant to look like circus tents or jester caps. It’s so cool!
I used my Hourglass Arch Brow Pencil in Dark Brunette to do my brows and did light contouring using my Illamasqua Cream Pigment in Hollow to make my face look even more shadowed and oddly colored for a more morbid feel.
Anyway, the most complicated part of this look, other than getting the shape of the tents right, was my lip color.
It’s a mix of several colors: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Transylvania, Revlon Color Burst Matte Lip Balm in Shameless (review here), and D&G Classic Cream Lipstick in Black Magic. I also shaped my lips to be a little pointy around my cupid’s bow to give them a vintage look.
- Frilly Top + Leggings/Shorts/Skirt; Note: You’ll also want to pair any skirts or shorts with tights to,again, keep the whole thing looking very circus-esque!
- Striped Top + Leggings or Shorts with Tights.
- 1920’s beaded flapper dress. I think this would also be cool with a 1940’s or 1950’s style dress as well, but 1920’s gives it a cool kind of glamorous feel.
So those are my two American Horror Story: Freakshow inspired Halloween makeup looks! I hope they inspire you to create your own this Halloween or if you have already created your own looks, please link them in the comments below so I can have a look!
