It’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these so I thought it was high time I did another one as I’ve tried many new things lately and there are a few worth mentioning that didn’t live up to my expectations or the hype surrounding them! If you want to see my first post on products not worth the hype, check here.
I’m a huge fan of the original formula of this Voluminous Mascara by L’Oreal, but the waterproof version SUCKS. I wore it a few times and every single time, it smudged and gave me hardcore raccoon eyes. Absolutely horrible. I wore it to the beach and all it did was smear. It totally defeats the purpose of this being “waterproof.” It’s not even sweat proof. Honestly, the orignal formula is amazing and works really well, but this one doesn’t.
I’m so upset about this mascara! I absolutely love the brand, ILIA Beauty, as I’m a huge fan of their tinted lip conditioners, but this fell short for a few very specific reasons. One – it’s in this beautifully sparkly copper color that looks amazing in the tube and is invisible on my dark eyelashes. I wish they mentioned that it doesn’t show up on dark lashes because it defeats the purpose. Two – Without a doubt, every time I’ve worn this, it makes my eyes water and burn. Granted, I have super sensitive eyes so if you don’t, this may be awesome for you, but it just left me sad that I couldn’t wear this more often. The wand is fantastic and actually curls lashes really well, offering lots of volume that looks so good it could be fake; too bad I’m too blinded by the sparkles to appreciate it!
There’s nothing particularly “bad” about this serum except that this literally doesn’t do anything. It’s a nice hydrating serum, but there’s really no brightening factor and it’s super over priced for what you get. I love Caudalie products, but this one was such a miss!
I actually purchased this little kit as a gift for my boyfriend and it broke him out really badly. He said the shave oil was especially bad and he never really breaks out so that says something. The ingredients seem okay so I’m not sure if they’re just using really low quality ones or what, but for $25 for these tiny travel size items, you would expect better.
Before I start on this one, I just want to say that I love Korres. One of my first ever reviews on this blog was for their amazing Vitamin E Primer because it’s one of the only primers that doesn’t break me out and, at that time, was one of the only silicone free primers on the market. It still is my favorite. You can see that review here. Now that you know how much I love Korres products, this powder is awful. It’s meant to be illuminating, but it’s literally just powder and sparkles. Holy crap, it made me shine like a bright beacon and not in a good way! The powder seems good quality, but the effects were not the glow I was looking for at all – way too over the top. They need to tone it on the shimmer.
It could be different now from when I first tried this cleansing oil out ( a year or so ago ), but when I did try it, I think it included mineral oil. On their site, it says that it doesn’t so it may have been re-formulated. Anyway, at the time I tried this, it broke me out really bad and clogged my pores horribly. It does cleanse your skin of makeup and smells really pleasant, but the effects on my acne prone skin were not. Just to be safe, if you have sensitive or acne prone skin, steer clear of this.
I tried this tinted tanning gel out last summer and it was AWFUL. I tried it a few different ways to try and work with it, but it just doesn’t. It’s super orange tinted, unlike the bronze they claim. The gel dries so fast it’s really hard to blend on the skin. Plus, it’s ultra shimmery and dries your skin out so in the end, you just look like an orange shimmery tinted oompa loompa with dried out streaky skin mess.
